With the advent of streaming, viewers had full control over what to watch, when to watch it, and how long to linger. A new update from Disney Plus seeks to change that. The streaming model will remain on the platform, but the entertainment giant is looking to add 24/7 channels to the streaming platform. These would work similarly to the free ad-supported streaming TV channels, also known as FAST channels currently found on Freevee and Pluto among other platforms. The caveat here is that streamers would still require a Disney Plus description, so these would be paid ad-supported streaming TV channels.

The channels would be divided into different genres or properties like Marvel, Star Wars, or Pixar. The idea here is that viewers can linger on channels or tune into marathons of their favorite movies or shows all while generating more ad revenue for Disney. In other words, streamers will have the option to select movies and shows as they did in the past or tune into what are essentially cable channels that only show content owned by Disney Plus and Hulu. For streamers overwhelmed by the options, especially after the integration of Hulu into the Disney Plus app, this option saves them from wading through an endless stream of content. The old streaming model will remain in place for viewers who appreciate control over their entertainment.
