'Birds of Prey' Director Wants Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy Romance

Despite a 'Birds of Prey' sequel not yet being confirmed, director Cathy Yan already has some ideas for one. Yan has started figuring out who she would take on an adventure with Harley Quinn; a familiar character to fans of both the comic books and animated series.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Cathy Yan said that if she got the opportunity to direct a sequel to 'Birds of Prey', she would focus of the dynamic duo, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.

A criminal team-up, or maybe even a romance between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, appear to be on the minds of a lot of fans. Margot Robbie has recently said “One [character] been pushing for as long as I’ve been pushing for this film is Poison Ivy,” Robbie told /Film. “I mean, there are two versions of that, you know, with some comics, it’s friendship, some comics, it’s romantic. Either way, I want to explore that because I just I love their relationship so much in the comics.”

It is not uncommon to see Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy pair up. They first fought crime together in 'Batman: The Animated Series'  during a time when Harley was on a break with the Joker. Harley and Poison Ivy soon became a popular Thelma and Louise-esque duo, and that was soon integrated into the comics. Harley and Ivy initially appeared as allies in the comics and further animated shows. In 2015 their romantic relationship was made official. Season 2 of the DC Universe animated series, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy is already a recurring character, and will finally become Harley's romantic partner.

Although a sequel to this year's 'Birds of Prey' movie is still yet to be confirmed, Yan seems confident that Harley will return to the box office.
