Foreign Disney Channels Shutting Down Because of Success of Disney+

Disney Plus launched at the end of 2019 and as of April has raked in more than 50 million monthly subscribers. Disney Plus is thew ultimate home for all things disney with content from Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. According to 'Inside The Magic' the following are a list of the first channels to go away:

  • Disney Channel (Italy)
  • Disney Junior (Italy)
  • Disney Channel (Australia)
  • Disney Junior (Australia)
  • Disney XD (Germany)
  • Disney XD (France)
  • Disney XD (Spain)
  • Disney XD+ (UK)

According to Walt Disney Television Animation they are going to be starting with Disney Channel Italy & Disney Junior Italy.

It is sad to see that these channels that have been beloved by all will be seeing their end, as someone who watched Disney Channel growing up I am saddened to see them go. But with all things we must progress and with everything moving into the digital space more and more it was only a matter of time for these channels on cable to go the way of the dodo. This will only boost subscriptions to Disney Plus which is a smart move for the company.

Currently, there is an ever expanding catalog of content from Disney Channel to watch on Disney Plus and it will only continue from here. Some of the titles include:

  • Hannah Montana
  • That’s So Raven
  • The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
  • Lizzie McGuire
  • Jonas
  • Jessie
  • Wizards of Waverly Place
  • Sonny With A Chance
  • Shake It Up
  • Even Stevens
  • Good Luck Charlie
  • Austin and Ally
  • Phil of the Future
  • Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • Elena of Avalor
  • Doc McStuffins
  • Fancy Nancy
  • Handy Manny
  • Little Einsteins
  • and more!
