'TRON 3' Reportedly In Development Starring Jared Leto?

It has been nearly a decade since Tron: Legacy hit theaters all the way back in 2010, but reports now show that a new Tron project is in the works. Plans for a sequel to Tron: Legacy was shelved after it did not perform as well as predicted at the box-office, and after Tomorrowland, another live-action Disney movie bombed. We all thought that the project was dead but now according to reports from The Disinsider the Jared Leto lead sequel is now looking for a director.

"the film is expected to be more of Tron sequel rather than a reboot, and the cast from Tron: Legacy could return. It is unknown at this time if the film will follow the same story as the canceled third Tron film, Tron: Ascension, which would have seen the machine world of The Grid invade the real world. That was also rumored to have featured a character called Ares."
This excites me, as one person that greatly enjoyed Tron: Legacy and has been following these developments for the last few years and was very sad to see that Tron: Ascension, the planned original sequel to Tron: Legacy, was shelved.

It is currently unclear if this third film will be Tron: Ascension, or it will be a new Tron 3 film. As of right now, our sources are speculating that it could be a reboot or a spinoff rather than a direct sequel.

As of right now, nothing is clear, so nothing can be confirmed, but if the project is currently looking for a director we should expect an official announcement in the next coming months once someone is signed for the project. Regarding Jared Leto, who has opening said he was interested in being part of the Tron franchise has said he is still on board.

No matter what side of the coin you fall on this is exciting news to see. As of right now, it looks like it is a good possibility that a Tron 3 movie is in the works and we here at Culture Slate could not be any more excited!
