An Interconnected 'Star Wars' TV Universe Is Rumored To Be In The Works

Disney is really gearing up for the release of The Mandalorian season 2 on October 30 on Disney+. We also recently got the release of a short film related to the video game Star Wars: Squadrons that has made Star Wars fans all around the world go nuts. And now we are hearing that another live-action Star Wars show may be in development? Seems like Disney is spoiling all Star Wars fans around the world. The Star Wars universe could be getting more great news even though Star Wars Celebration 2020 was canceled and the convention will not be returning until 2022.

Fansided and The Direct have reported on a rumor from LRM Online stating that, in 2021, Disney might be getting a development that would certainly ease the pain and gap of time between 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker and the next theatrical Star Wars film in 2023. Disney+ might be getting Star Wars series released on a quarterly basis.

The statement can be check out from the Star Wars Direct Twitter account:

Imagine that: a new Star Wars series every quarter starting in mid-2021. According to the rumor, the shows would be overseen by The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni. The plan would include the rumored Ahsoka Tano spin-off live action series featuring Captain Rex and Sabine Wren, a Boba Fett series, an Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn series, the confirmed Cassian Andor series, and possibly an untitled series with a new character starring. The confirmed Obi-Wan Kenobi series would not be part of this plan since it is intended to be a standalone.

After the success of The Mandalorian, doubling down on Disney+ as the home for expanding the Star Wars universe through familiar characters through interconnected shows that expand the universe as a whole. Plenty of rumors go around that these characters from the hit animated TV series have been cast for the live-action TV shows. What people believe or at least are hoping is for Ahsoka Tano (the wildly popular character from the hit animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars) in an episode of The Mandalorian season 2. After all, Ahsoka Tano is one of the most powerful ex-Jedi to survive Order 66, and at this point, we have no record of her death even with the fact that Ahsoka Tano has a voiceover cameo in The Rise of Skywalker, given that Filoni himself has previously hinted that she does not necessarily need to be dead for her voice to be heard in that scene. As for Ezra Bridger from Star Wars Rebels, he is significant in that he has been able to face the temptation of the ultimate power of life and death without succumbing to it.

A couple of weeks ago, Jon Favreau compared The Mandalorian to the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones. Interesting enough, the inclusion of interconnected shows brings the Marvel Cinematic Universe to mind. A main storyline could be so significant that the events will require the assistance on the previous characters we mentioned.

Star Wars news pretty much overtakes the internet like crazy. If Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and Sabine Wren appear in an episode of The Mandalorian season 2, it would make a lot of sense to evolve these characters in the future series. There are tremendous stories to tell as The Mandalorian could be used as the base to connect the Star Wars universe.
