Captain America Shield Spotted In New 'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Set Video

Ever since the end of Avengers: Endgame, when Steve Rogers gave the shield and the mantel of Captain America over to his friend Sam Wilson (The Falcon), fans have been waiting to see how this storyline will pan out in the MCU.

Fans of the comics know that there were multiple storylines involving what happened to Captain America and his shield and title after he stopped being Captain America. There have been storylines in which he has died and the mantel has died with him, and storylines in which different people have taken up the mantle. In 2008, Marvel Comics had Bucky Barnes take the mantle during The Death of Captain America storyline. In 2014, they had Falcon carry on the mantle. Fans were waiting to see which option Marvel Studios would pick. And the one they decided on, with some twists of their own, has many people eagerly wanting to see more.

Marvel announced that, after Avengers: Endgame, several of their new visual stories would be TV shows and not just movies. This is not the first time that Marvel has had TV shows that take place within the same universe as the films. Take Agents of SHIELD, for example, which strategically tied into Captain America: Winter Soldier, and fit perfectly into the storyline of everyone finding out that SHIELD was now Hydra. Marvel also had other shows, though they were not as tightly connected to the films as the upcoming shows are. This is the first time that they are doing TV shows with the characters that have been the stars of the major blockbuster movies. Not only have they announced The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as a miniseries for Disney+, but also WandaVision, Loki, and Hawkeye, to name a few.

Filming for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier got put on hold because of COVID-19. It has just restarted filming in Atlanta, Georgia at the beginning of September. Along with the series co-stars, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, this show is full of Marvel Cinematic Universe (and comics) regulars and new faces, including returning characters Helmut Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). Wyatt Russell, whose father Kurt Russell played Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, is joining in as the character of John Walker/US Agent, and seems to play a large role in the show.

On September 10, Everything Georgia (@GAFollowers on Twitter) posted a 12-second video featuring action by Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent fighting someone in the street. Behind them is a burning van or truck. As per a lot of superhero fight scenes, this seems to be taking place in a construction zone. There also seem to be a couple of people knocked out on the ground, but it is hard to tell where the crew stops being in their places and where the scene is set, so they may not be a part of the scene at all. When the video zooms in, we get a pretty good, albeit fuzzy, shot of the shield.

The scene filmed seems to be the same one that was released in March 2020 in a series of set videos before the filming went on hiatus. But this video is a different angle than the one from the set videos before.  This clip may be short, but it definitely does the trick of getting fans excited for this show. Even from far away, seeing Wyatt Russell fighting against the unknown adversary is an exciting look at what awaits during the adventures of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. We do not have any context for this scene in which John Walker is fighting, or even whose side he appears to be on. This also creates intrigue involving this show and the characters in it.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still does not have its new release date on Disney+, but we hope to have it soon. It is still in the final stages of filming, and fans wait eagerly for this next installment of Marvel superhero stories.
