Temuera Morrison Is Confirmed As Boba Fett On 'The Mandalorian'

Boba Fett is returning in The Mandalorian season 2! This has been confirmed via Robert Bruce Agency, which represents actor Temuera Morrison. The agency's web portal contains a link to a CV on Showcast, where it clearly states that Temuera Morrison is Boba Fett in season 2 of the Disney+ series. This is more official than any other sites out there claiming this information.

Star Wars Stuff has tweeted that Temuera Morrison’s agency has confirmed that he will be playing Boba Fett in the second season.

The Hollywood Reporter had reported back in May that actor Temeura Morrison, who had portrayed Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, as well as the clone troopers in both that film and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, is returning in The Mandalorian season 2. Since Boba Fett is a clone of Jango Fett, it makes sense that the adult version of the character would look and sound like Jango. George Lucas doubled down on this when he had Boba Fett's lines in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back redone by Morrison for the 2004 version of the film, and revised versions that have been released from then on have retained this.

Given that Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were released in 2002 and 2005, respectively, Morrison was in his forties when those films came out. To some, there is an expectation or speculation that his role as Boba Fett could simply be a voiceover role since Morrison is pushing 60. Since The Mandalorian is set five years after Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, Boba Fett would be about 41 years old. Unlike other clones, Boba did not go through the growth acceleration that caused clone troopers to age twice as quickly. If Boba Fett ends up wearing his helmet most of the time whenever he appears in the season, then it would be very easy to have Temuera Morrison just do the voice. Or if Boba Fett does take off his helmet at some point, Disney and Lucasfilm could probably use the de-age VFX ala Michael Douglas in the beginning of 2015’s Ant-Man to make Morrison to look as he did when he was in his early forties.

Some Star Wars fans speculated that Temuera Morrison would be playing Captain Rex in one of The Mandalorian season 2 episodes, along with Ahsoka Tano, who is rumored to have her own live-action spin-off series with Rosario Dawson in the iconic role. Both Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex were introduced in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars and were main characters throughout the series that followed. They also popped up in the 2014 animated series Star Wars Rebels. Assuming that Captain Rex was born around the same time as Boba Fett and that the growth acceleration did not stop, Rex would be about 41 but look 82 years old. Theoretically, Morrison could be aged up a bit to look the part, if need be. However, Robert Bruce Agency, who representing Temuera Morrison, only listed Boba Fett specifically.

Back in May, The Hollywood Reporter had also claimed that actor Timothy Olyphant of TV’s Justified had joined The Mandalorian season 2, possibly to play Cobb Vanth from the Star Wars: Aftermath novels, as Slash Film mentioned that Timothy Olyphant had filmed his scene wearing Boba Fett’s armor. Some Star Wars fans believed Cobb Vanth was the character approaching Fennec Shand on the planet Tatooine at the end of the episode "The Gunslinger." Here is the quote from Slash Film:

“Our sources have confirmed to us that Olyphant filmed scenes wearing Boba Fett’s Mandalorian armor for the upcoming second season of The Mandalorian. Vanth is the self-appointed sheriff of the Tatooine-based settlement Freetown. He weas a mysterious set of Mandalorian armor that was acquired from Jawas who scavenged the wreckage of Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi.”

Eagle-eyed fans have also spotted what looks like Boba Fett’s armor on the back of Mando’s speeder in the teaser trailer. For now, this is speculation, and we will just have to be patient and see what happens in season 2, which premieres October 30 on Disney+.
