The 'Star Wars' Hotel Is Still A Priority At Disney World

The year of 2020 is not making anything easier to anyone. Hollywood productions were shut down throughout the last several months due to the pandemic. Barely any of the major Hollywood productions are back in production, but at least one (The Batman) has been shut down again due to someone in the production being tested positive for COVID. This can happen with other productions. This pandemic is also affecting Disney World. Although the coronavirus had caused the delays for other attractions and developments, Disney is still prioritizing their Star Wars hotel to open.

At the Bank of America Virtual Media Communications & Entertainment Conference this past Thursday, Disney Chief Financial Official Christine M. McCarthy was asked by one analyst whether Disney’s investment have changed for the year. She said the following:
“We’ve really prioritized some of our investment spending. The one that we’re really focused on are things like the Star Wars hotel that we’ve discussed publicly that will be in Walt Disney World. That’s a priority."
Christine McCarthy also suggested the new Avengers Campus and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride will remain priorities, according to The Orlando Sentinel.

For Star Wars fans, this is an exciting bit news. The Star Wars hotel, which is called Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, will be open sometimes in 2021. It will be a theme luxury hotel built near Disney’s Hollywood Studios, in the Epcot Resort Area of the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The hotel will be accompanied with the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed area. This idea of the hotel had been struck back in 2017, when Disney contracted Swagbucks, an American rewards and loyalty program operator that operated by Prodege, LLC, to survey visitors in order to get more gimmick and interest in a possible of Star Wars themed hotel. As a result of the survey, Disney approved the Star Wars themed hotel with a visitor experience, and it was first announced in 2017's D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will allow guests to stay in a hotel that pretends to be a starcruiser in the Star Wars galaxy called the Halcyon. As the name entails, the hotel will be shaped like a Star Wars starship. The rooms will have children’s bunk beds and adult-sized beds in the style of Star Wars bunkers, with each room fitting a family of up to four. The lobby of the hotel is also designed in the style of a Star Wars spaceship interior. The hotel will also featured creatures and droids acting as a hotel staff, as well as the ability to interact with features of the hotel as if the guests are really in the Star Wars universe.

The Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, Bob Chapeck, stated that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will be Disney’s “most experiential concept ever.” Chapeck also described it as a “100% immersive experience that will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will also include a lightsaber training course. Just like when Obi-Wan Kenobi trained Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, the guests will be able to use their lightsabers to block simulated shots from a training device and other activities to make things as real as it gets. Ann Morrow Johnson, creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering, said the following:
“There are characters on the ship, and many of you will be meeting for the first time. It’s a dangerous time in the galaxy and you should be wary about who you make allegiances with because your choices matter. The choice will affect how your ‘Star Wars’ story unfolds.”
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is intended to open sometimes in 2021.
