Will We Be Seeing 'Star Wars: The Bad Batch' In Spring 2021?

With Gamescom having come and gone, fans are very excited for the release of the video game Star Wars: Squadrons in October. We also got the trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, with the confirmation that it is set to come out in spring 2021. In between the releases of those games, we will be experiencing the second season of The Mandalorian, which starts in October. On the books and comics front, we will be exploring The High Republic starting in January 2021. But of course, we also have another series to look forward to: The Bad Batch.

The Bad Batch made a huge impression on the hit animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Bringing them onto the final season of that show was a great way to get viewers familiar with them before the announcement of The Bad Batch series, the next Star Wars animated series in development for Disney+. It was officially announced that the show will premiere in 2021, though we were not given a specific release date. However, we may now have an approximation of when it may come out.

Via The Direct, we have found out that Jordan Maison (@JordanMaison on Twitter), the editor-in-chief at Cinelinx, sent out a couple of tweets on August 27 that suggest spring 2021 as the intended release date for The Bad Batch. First, there was this tweet regarding LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga:

“#LEGOStarWars: The Skywalker Saga Deluxe edition includes a "Character Bundle Pack" that will include SIX DLC packs for characters from #TheMandalorian, #RogueOne, Solo, and even #TheBadBatch!”

Thanks to the release of the trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, we now know that the game is set for a spring 2021 release. Maison’s next tweet suggested that The Bad Batch TV show could be released around the same time:

“FWIW, this isn't the only thing I've seen lately that points to a likely Spring 2021 release for #TheBadBatch series on #DisneyPlus.....”

While Maison did not provide any additional details, it would make sense for the video game and the show to be released around the same time as a form of marketing synergy, even if the connection is merely via a DLC pack. Most of The Clone Wars season 7 aired in spring (with the Bad Batch arc, ironically, being the only one of the season’s three arcs to air in winter). Releasing The Bad Batch around a year after the final season of The Clone Wars sounds like a good spot, given that Disney knows how well that show performed in spring earlier this year. The show may even premiere by the time LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga comes out. With fans getting more and more familiar with these clone troopers, there is the potential for them to get more excited to play as these clones via the DLC pack.

While spring 2021 may seem far away, it is obviously closer than summer 2021 and autumn 2021. So if it is indeed intended for spring 2021, then this is a welcome time to release it. People grew up on The Clone Wars, and it is great that the show finally got a satisfying conclusion. However, fans are still hungry for stories in the vein of The Clone Wars. Even if the book has been closed on the Clone Wars era on the animation front, we could still explore these clone characters who would very much carry on the legacy of The Clone Wars and take part in action similar to what we have seen on that show. When the release of The Bad Batch gets closer, excitement will surely grow higher.
