Multiple Darth Bane Projects Possibly In The Works

After finishing the last Star Wars trilogy, Disney is definitely expanding the Star Wars universe all the way, starting with their last year’s successful The Mandalorian live-action TV series on Disney+, the second season of which is coming out this month. Disney is already developing a series about Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Rogue One prequel series about Cassian Andor, and the new animated series The Bad Batch. All of these are set during the dark times.

With the success of The Mandalorian, Disney is going to do what the Marvel Cinematic Universe did, with rumors about how The Mandalorian is being used as a vessel to kick off a shared universe of sorts by digging up some well-known and popular characters in the Star Wars universe and follow up their appearances with potential spin-off stories. According to insider Daniel Richtman's Patreon, Disney is also planning to do multiple Darth Bane projects. We are not sure if these upcoming projects are going to be theatrical releases or whether it could involve live-action series like The Mandalorian, or even animated movies or series like The Clone Wars and Rebels.

The character Darth Bane was first mentioned in the novelization of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which mentions that Darth Bane was an ancient Sith Lord that had lived about a thousand years before the film. He was known as the originator of the Rule of Two that the Sith follow, which established that “a master and an apprentice can be the only Sith in the galaxy at one time." In canon, Darth Bane actually had a cameo appearance in the hit successful animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, specifically in 2014’s episode “Sacrifice,” where he appeared to Jedi Master Yoda as a ghost voiced by Mark Hamill himself. This marked his only appearance in the series.

However, he had previously appeared in Legends. In 2001, he appeared in the comic series Jedi vs. Sith. His full life story, starting before he became a Sith and covering his rise during the fall of the Sith before him, was in the 2006 novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, written by Drew Karpyshyn. The novel was followed by two more books: Darth Bane: Rule of Two and Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil. These stories are considered Legends, but it seems like Disney and Lucasfilm might set up their own canonical story.

Of course, one would think that a Darth Bane project would have to be far removed from the main timeline that Disney and Lucasfilm are currently exploring. Perhaps it is possible that we can get a solo movie or TV series centering on his origins. We have heard that there will be cameo appearances from familiar characters in The Mandalorian season 2. If Darth Bane were to be added to that list of potential cameos, it would have to be in the form of a ghost, or even a flashback telling stories of old. Of course, this possibility is just a hypothetical scenario. An appearance by Darth Bane on that series would feel more left field than any of the other cameos that we have reported on. But of course, the rumor is not about Darth Bane appearing on The Mandalorian, but about him having multiple projects. It is possible that Lucasfilm may be considering such projects, but perhaps they are only talking about them amidst a plethora of other potential ideas that may or may not come to fruition. If it happens, it could be interesting, though it is possible that it may not happen for a while. Only time will tell.
