Hailee Steinfield's Kate Bishop Rumoured To Be Returning In Future Marvel Projects

Hailee Steinfield as Kate Bishop

Phase 4 of the MCU has been rich in novelties as it has introduced an abundant amount of new characters, not only through its movies but also through its shows. Amongst these, one of the most popular has been Hailee Steinfield’s Kate Bishop who has been introduced in the Christmas event series Hawkeye.

Now, it’s been a while since the last episode of the show was released on Disney+, and Marvel Studios hasn’t officially given any information regarding her next appearance in the MCU. Nonetheless, recent and unofficial evidence has suggested that we will see Steinfield sooner than expected.

The Rumours Of A Hailee Steinfield Return In Future Marvel Projects

In a recent article regarding the MCU Award nominations, from July 2022, Variety states that according to its sources there are plans for Steinfield to appear in future MCU projects. With this said, despite earning a score of 92% approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, the finale of the first season of Hawkeye did not hint at a possible continuation for the show and Marvel has not yet announced a second season.

Before that, in December 2021, a report claimed the actress had been spotted in the UK, in the same location where Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was filming. According to their source, it didn’t seem like a casual visit, and actors are usually not allowed on the sets unless they are filming. However, there is no information on whether the visits were regular or if she was there only for a day. Ultimately, her presence might be enough to confirm that she will have a role in the movie.

Finally, in June 2022, Steinfield was also rumoured to make an appearance in the Ms. Marvel show due to an error spotted in the credits of the show. It appears that Steinfield’s makeup artist had been referenced in the credits of the show. Nevertheless, the fact that Iman Vellani’s makeup artist wasn’t credited confirms that it was, in fact, a mistake and that they probably just copied this section from Hawkeye’s credits, as every other crew member is the same for both shows. Also, as we saw on July 13, Steinfield did not have a role in the Ms. Marvel show.

With the excitement of expecting a potential Young Avengers movie, fans are on the lookout for every detail, and possible mistakes, to find out what Marvel Studios could be preparing for the young superheroes.

In What Future Project Could We Expect Kate Bishop To Make An Appearance?

While being rewarding for some of the characters, the finale of the Hawkeye show was not clear regarding their future in the MCU. After taking out the Tracksuit Mafia and Kingpin, Kate Bishop faced her mother, who tried to explain to her the necessity of her deeds, until the latter was taken away by the police. Meanwhile, Clint Barton made peace with Yelena Belova and Maya (Echo) killed Kingpin. The show ends on a festive moment between Kate, Clint, and his family on Christmas Day. While we know there is an Echo series in the works, this ending gives no information regarding Kate’s next appearances and ultimately we can only speculate on what to expect for her future in the MCU.

Regarding the rumour mentioned above, the idea of having Steinfield appearing in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, could possibly make sense. If you followed this fourth phase of the MCU with attention you probably noticed that, compared with the prior phases, this phase features an important number of young superheroes. This being said, if Marvel Studios chooses to follow the material from the comics, it is very likely that in Quantumania we might see Scott Lang dying, and consequently, this could lead to a post-credit scene where we see Cassie Lang seeking Kate Bishop for help, which would result in a potential future adaptation of the Young Avengers storyline.

Having an adaptation of the Young Avengers story could stem many new stories and bring even more new characters into the MCU. If it happens, one tale that is likely to see the light is the Children’s Crusade storyline from the comics to which Kate Bishop is very much tied as she is one of the first members to join the group. In this story, the group of young superheroes sought the help of the Scarlet Witch after one of the members of the group, Wiccan, had his powers overloaded during a battle against the Sons of the Serpent. With the help of Quicksilver and Magneto, the team traveled to Transia and then Latveria before discovering a Wanda, who was deprived of her powers and her memories, and who happened to be engaged to Doctor Doom. While fighting Doom’s army of robots, Iron Lad, one of Kang’s variants and a member of the Young Avengers, teleported Wanda and the group to the Time Stream in an attempt to restore the Scarlet Witch’s memories and go back to the timeline where they all came from.

Young Avengers The Children's Crusde

While there had been rumours about a Marvel contract extension concerning Elizabeth Olsen, the main reason why we could think there is a chance for this story to happen is that Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness ending indirectly hints at it. Firstly, in the Darkhold castle, we can see statues of her children engraved on the walls of the castle, as if their children were meant to exist in the 616 universe and were part of a prophecy. So perhaps they could appear in the MCU as reincarnations of Tommy and Billy, whom we saw in WandaVision. Then, and most importantly, the movie hints at a possible comeback for the Scarlet Witch in the MCU. Indeed, at the end of the movie, when the Darkhold castle falls into rubble upon her, we can see an explosion of chaos magic. This could suggest that Wanda unconsciously protected herself or teleported herself to another location. As you know, it is not the first time that she has unintentionally used her magic for a personal cause and after an emotional event.

Tune in from July 21 to July 22 to follow Marvel’s announcements at San Diego Comic-Con, and maybe we’ll have some news on Kate Bishop’s next adventure.
