All Of The Times Mark Ruffalo Accidentally Leaked MCU Plot Points

Mark Ruffalo in an interview

He is green, cute, and has the same sense of humor as a teenage Groot in plain hormonal crisis. Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about Bruce Banner and his alter ego the Hulk. For more than a decade, Mark Ruffalo has portrayed this conflicted character and with his personality and acting skills, he has gained the trust of comic fans that like the green creature.

Of course, will all these years of content Marvel has created a rabbit hole of content within its Disney+ platform but also on the internet. So logically, we fans, as nerdy as we are, are very likely to look into side content such as bloopers, behind-the-scenes content, and even interviews of the actors, writers, or producers like Kevin Feige. What is funny about Mark Ruffalo playing a strong character like the Hulk is that, ironically, the latter is probably the weakest link when it comes to spoilers during interviews and has earned himself the reputation of a blabbermouth amongst his Marvel co-stars. Now, what is funnier, is to know that his slip of the tongue is now part of the Marvel culture and that this article is just here to remind everyone of that.

When Mark Ruffalo Live-Streamed Thor: Ragnarok

Based on his appearances and his history, Ruffalo seems to be a knowledgeable man and someone that wants to make the world a better place by using his fame to enhance his voice as an activist. This being said, nobody is perfect and everyone has their weaknesses and it turns out that Ruffalo’s weakest point is probably technology.

In October 2017 took place the premiere of Thor: Ragnarok and as committed to his fans as he is, Ruffalo decided to do a live stream of the said event on Facebook, so he could share his excitement with his fans. The funny part is that he was so thrilled by the event that when the film started the latter put his phone in his pocket without ending the stream beforehand. As a result, he streamed about 20 minutes of the movie’s audio to about 2.500 followers of his. Fortunately, at some point, an executive woman from Marvel approached him and told him to turn it off.

Of course, Ruffalo was expecting to hear about Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige as a backlash to this unfortunate mistake. In The Graham Show, he recalled the confrontation with Marvel after he leaked the movie. He explained, “He was like, ‘What are you doing, man ?" and continued by saying, “I told him, ‘Kevin, it was an accident. I swear to God. They told me to use Facebook Live, I don’t know how to use it!’ He was like, ‘You can’t do this stuff!” Fortunately, Ruffalo did not get fired and he had to see Kevin Feige the day after to do press for the movie.“I walk over to him to say sorry, and he grabs me in a bear hug and he’s like, “That was genius! We got more press from that than the entire premiere! We couldn’t have imagined doing something that good!” You can see him retelling his story in the video below.

When He Spoiled The Ending Of Avengers: Infinity War

Could you imagine an actor spoiling the ending of one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2018? When you read it, it seems inconceivable. Well, it happened and Ruffalo did it.

This awkward but funny moment happened at D23 in July 2017 during an interview for Good Morning America where he team up with Don Cheadle to answer a few questions about Avengers: Infinity War. When asked about the ending of Thor: Ragnarok, Ruffalo hesitatingly teased that “like every other Marvel superhero movie, it doesn’t end well for the superheroes”. As if that wasn’t enough already, he then followed it up by adding “Wait until you see the next one. Ha - everybody dies!” There’s a reason Marvel actors often joke about getting in trouble if they unintentionally leak any information about these movies to the press. All the plot points of these movies are valuable. Here, the actors could have pretended it was a joke because the tone Ruffalo used could have suggested it, but the disappointment in Cheadle’s eyes and Ruffalo’s panic were too big for them to be able to hide the disaster. You can see Cheadle melting from the inside as he hears his co-star spoiling the ending of one of the most highly anticipated movies ever made by Marvel Studios at then.

Spoiling Captain America’s marriage to Peggy Carter

Listen, there is such a variety of actors out there that have so many flaws and yet are still going on with their careers: some of them have toxic working habits on set, others assault people on the streets and still get to keep their movie, and then there are actors like Ruffalo who are serial spoilers. It is what it is. However, to fight this spoiler issue, Marvel Studios stepped up and started to mislead some of their actors on the plot points of their movies by giving them different scripts and making them film different scenes which ultimately don’t make the cut. With this in mind, this spoiler was rather naïve coming from Ruffalo because he didn’t know at the time that what he said was indeed a spoiler.

On April 8th of 2019, during an interview with E!News to promote Avengers: Endgame, Ruffalo stated that he didn’t know what was going to happen regarding his character’s arc and the ending of the said movie. Jokingly, he then proceeded to point to his co-star Chris Evans and said “He gets married in this!” after revealing that he had received several scripts that he considered to be false. In response to this bombshell, Chris Evans laughed and mocked his co-star saying “you leak like a bodily function” which made everyone laugh. Evans handled rather well the bombshell by inserting some feeling of uncertainty in the conversation by stating that all of their statements were pure speculation. Of course, now that the movie is out, we all know that this naïve mistake turned out to be a spoiler because, as we see at the end of the movie, old Steve Rogers gives the shield to Sam Wilson and shows his engagement ring implying that he had married Peggy Carter.

When Ruffalo Revealed Hulk’s Changed Nature

Bruce Banner is one of the most iconic characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The reason is that his human body is in constant conflict with Hulk’s persona. When talking with CinemaBend in 2017 about his character’s arc, Ruffalo confessed that Ragnarok was indeed the beginning of a three-movie arc for the Hulk and that the latter would become more talkative moving forward.

Knowing that Universal was, and still is, in possession of the character’s distribution rights, giving an end to Ruffalo’s character in the MCU would have been a plausible decision, especially because, as you have already probably noticed, most of the Avengers’ original team members are now out of the game. With this confession, at then, the actor indirectly suggested that the Hulk would continue to make appearances in future movies and that he would do more than just smashing everything and grunting. Unfortunately, a few years later, the character has indeed changed but it remained a doomed side character because no Hulk solo movie has been released nor planned by Marvel yet.

When He Gave Away The Title Of Avengers: Endgame

Between filming these expensive movies and leaking information about them during interviews, 2017 has been a rough year for Mark Ruffalo. This man has spoiled so many plot points that he has earned a reputation amongst Marvel and his co-stars who end up roasting him during interviews. But it seems that the actor didn’t want to stop there. In 2018, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Ruffalo committed a crime once again by spoiling the title of the biggest sequel Marvel has ever made, Avengers: Endgame. During the interview, Fallon speaks and makes fun of Ruffalo’s tendency to spoil Marvel movie’s plot points to the press. Jokingly, the actor reveals the title of the upcoming Avengers movie. Though, after all these mistakes we can only think that Marvel has learned its lesson and that is why this segment of the show seems to have been condoned by the studio. If not, otherwise at that time the actor would probably have been fired once and for all.

Ruffalo is set to come back as Dr. Banner in the upcoming She-Hulk series, premiering on August 18th.
