The Star Wars franchise has been in existence since 1977, spanning multiple installments in television, film, and digital media. As a result, the associated work put into making Star Wars has often attracted the attention of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, resulting in a number of different Academy Award acknowledgements for a number of individuals. Rick Baker played Figrin D’an, the Bith leader of the band in the Mos Eisley Cantina in A New Hope. The now-retired Baker’s occupation was as a special effects makeup creator; in that role, he is the record holder for the Academy Award for Best Makeup, with a total of 11 nominations and 7 wins.

As a sound designer, he has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, along with one nomination as a short film director; out of these nominations, he has won two awards for Best Sound Effects Editing. He has also received two Special Achievement Awards for his work.

Sir Alec Guinness appeared in A New Hope as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Throughout his long acting career, he accrued a total of five Academy Award nominations, winning a Best Actor trophy for the Bridge on the River Kwai. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1980.
