10 Moments That Made Us Fall In Love With Baby Yoda

Yes, we know by now that his name is Grogu. Let's get that out of the way. Obviously, many people did not know for a while what his name was, and so referred to him by the nickname of "Baby Yoda." Whether they knew his real name or not, people fell in love with the character. Her are ten moments that reinforced that (in chronological order rather than ranking).

1. His First Appearance

The series premiere of The Mandalorian was already impressive to the viewers after just a few scenes. However, the whole premise of the show was changed completely when it was revealed at the end what the MacGuffin was. To the surprise of everyone, it was a baby who was the same species as Yoda. This species has only had two other known members in canon, and another in Legends, so this was completely off of anyone's radar. It is surprising that this reveal did not leak at all prior to the show premiering. The surprise reveal was the beginning of people falling in love with the character.

2. Levitating The Mudhorn

In the first episode, there was no display of Force abilities at all. Some like myself even wondered whether the Force would ever factor at all in this series. That was swiftly answered in the second episode, in which Grogu uses the Force to levitate a mudhorn in order to help his newfound space dad.

3. Din's Rescue

Din Djarin gives away Grogu in the third episode, but his conscience drives him to rescue him. We see the lengths that he will go in order to protect this child. Seeing just how much he means to him is another aspect that made viewers really like Grogu. Din Djarin is not just some badass bounty hunter; he is a badass bounty hunter with a noble purpose.

4. Drinking Tea

The moment in "Chapter 4: The Sanctuary" in which Grogu sips tea while watching Din Djarin and Cara Dune fight became a meme that spread like wildfire across the internet. It is such a humorous and memorable moment.

5. Worshipped By Kids

In the same episodes, the kids in the village pretty much channel the internet's Grogu fans by being amazed by him, and even saying that they will miss him as he leaves.

6. Facing Zero

In "Chapter 6: The Prisoner," Zero has Grogu cornered. Grogu then raises his hand, apparently trying to use the Force. We then see Zero get busted, and Grogu, like us, looks at his hand and wonders if he really did accomplish something. As it turns out, Din Djarin shot the droid from behind. But the moment is still sweet and funny.

7. Healing Greef Karga

Grogu Force choking Cara Dune is such a dark moment, but he turns himself around later on when he chooses to Force heal Greef Karga. This makes Greef reconsider what he had been planning to do, and he becomes an ally to Din Djarin and company. He would later wave when Greef asks him to "Do the magic hand thing."

8. Protected By IG-11

After seeing Grogu get punched by one of the stormtroopers, it is so satisfying seeing the reprogrammed IG-11 take them all down as he protects Grogu, who enjoys the ride on the bike. All of this action would be meaningless if it wasn't driven by the redeemed droid's desire to protect this innocent child from Imperials.

9. Macaroons

Season 2 had its egg controversy, but there were still moments here and there where people loved Grogu. In "Chapter 12: The Siege," he steals macaroons from a classmate, and later vomits some of it in a cute way after all of the action.

10. Interacting With Artoo

The most surprising cameo appearance in the show was not Luke Skywalker, but rather R2-D2. In the season 2 finale, when Artoo comes in, Grogu is drawn to the droid. He may remind audiences of how they used to be as kids admiring Artoo.
