Legendary Actor Bill Murray Seemingly Confirms He Will Be In The Ant-Man Threequel

Disney/Marvel Studios recently made some huge and unexpected scheduling changes to the films coming out in 2022 and 2023 (and in some cases, even into 2024). One of those major changes is the movement of almost every single one of Marvel’s announced movies, including the last Phase 4 movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It is currently scheduled to be released July 28, 2023, barring any other schedule changes. After the announcement made recently, this may not even be soon enough for fans dying to see what this film is going to focus on.

The first two Ant-Man movies, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, were box office successes and very loved. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is promising to be the biggest adventure of Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. So far, we do not know much about its plot. We do know a few things, however, namely the cast list. Evangeline Lilly will be back to reprise her role as Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp. We will also see Kathryn Newton returning as Cassie Lang. Many of the other Phase 4 films have multiple-star studded casts, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is no exception. This film will introduce Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror for the first time on screen, and another big name has just announced that they may definitely be joining the cast as well.

A rumor has been circulating the Marvel fandom for a while that Bill Murray was going to be a part of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This rumor was partially populated due to the movie’s production listing for a photo double of the actor back in early October. Now, we seem to have a more concrete proof. One of everyone’s favorite actors, the legendary Bill Murray, may have just let something big slip. In fact, he has seemingly confirmed the rumor. Bill Murray is reportedly joining the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, essentially making his MCU debut.

In an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine via Cosmic Circus, Bill Murray confirmed he had joined the cast of many actors/actresses to be in a Marvel film, more specifically a new Ant-Man movie. One of the questions posed to him was how important it was to work with people he already knows. Bill Murray commented on how he “recently…made a Marvel movie” with director Peyton Reed, whom he knew from before. Peyton Reed is the director of Bring It On – Girls United among other films. Even though Murray said that he was not “interested in these huge comic book adaptations” he still took the role.

“You know, recently I made a Marvel movie. I probably won’t tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project. But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On – Girls United he made a movie years ago, which I think is damn good. So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise.”

Bill Murray also confirmed that this would not be a recurring character, and that for him, once was enough. He has been in a Marvel film. He has done it. Now, he can move on.

“Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don’t think I need that experience a second time. And to come back to your previous question: I have mostly had a pretty good knack for avoiding the nasties of this industry. Fortunately, most good artists are also good people. At least that’s how I experience it with my friends.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to big superstar names becoming a part of their movies in some way. Having Bill Murray in the MCU is certainly welcome since he is so loved by many fans throughout his extensive career. Bill Murray has been acting for nearly 50 years. One of his most iconic roles is Peter Venkman in the first two Ghostbusters movies. He is also going to reprise this role (alongside Paul Rudd) in Ghostbusters: Afterlife releasing soon in November 2021. His other notable movies include Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation, and Moonrise Kingdom.

The question does remain. What role will he be playing in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania? Fans have been speculating and coming up with all sorts of ideas. Both Marvel and Murray have kept quiet on this. Fans may just have to wait until the next interview that Murray does. Perhaps, he will let something else slip.
