5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Grand Inquisitor

The Grand Inquisitor was the leader of the Inquisitorius. The group of ex-Jedi turned Dark-Siders who served under Lord Darth Vader, whose very job was to hunt the Jedi who had survived the purge. However, many things are yet to be revealed about the Grand Inquisitor. Though he still remains a great mystery, there are a few things that we do know about him and his time as the head of Vader’s dark side minions. So here are the five things you didn’t know about the Grand Inquisitor.

The Grand Inquisitor Was Once A Jedi

Like all the Inquisitors that came before him, The Grand Inquisitor was once a member of the Jedi Order. Not only that, he was a Jedi sentinel. One of the protectors of the Jedi Temple.

While not much is known about the Grand Inquisitor’s career as a Jedi, it is known that one of the reasons he fell to the dark side was his feeling that the Jedi were restricting his knowledge of the Force and only allowing specific individuals access to the archives. However, once he became the Grand Inquisitor, he was able to gain access to said archives that he so yearned to have under his belt.

Duelist Of The Double Blade

Like most Inquisitors, the Grand Inquisitors uses a mechanical double-bladed lightsaber to take out other Jedi that he and Vader hunted during the purge. This double-bladed lightsaber can automatically spin with the mechanics which makes things difficult for any Jedi.

Inquisitor Of Lothal

Just before the destruction of the First Death Star, the Grand Inquisitor was sent to the planet Lothal, where he was tasked to defeat Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus. With the aid of ISB agent Kallus and the Imperial garrison, there for a good while, he hunts down Kanan along with his padawan Ezra Bridger. Even managing to capture the ex-Jedi Knight and bring him to Mustafar. However, it was there that he met his end, falling to his death.

Broken Spirit

Despite his death, the essence of the Grand Inquisitor lived on. Vader stopped him from passing on from the mortal world, keeping his essence as a continued tool to serve his purpose. Thus on a Jedi outpost on Tempes, a part of the Grand Inquisitor lived on, forever engulfed in flame and fire. He would eventually be found by Luke Skywalker during one of his quests. The young Jedi sees the horror of what the Sith has done to him. Making him their eternal tool.

Hunt For Kenobi

While this part of his life remains a mystery, for now, the Grand Inquisitor it seemed took part in the hunt for missing Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. We don’t know why, but he went to the planet Tatooine when the Jedi Master was still in hiding, protecting Luke Skywalker until he became a Jedi Knight. How this story plays out has yet to be told, though hopefully soon, it will in the forthcoming Kenobi series on Disney+.

The Grand Inquisitor was one of the more interesting characters to be introduced in the early years of the Star Wars canon. The leader of the Inquisitorius is a fascinating character who skirts the edge of the dark side. Despite appearing in one season of Rebels, he has spread out across various mediums, becoming a staple of the Empire in the Dark Times era. Hopefully, we will learn more about him, and his legacy as things continue to expand. Perhaps even learn about his time as a Jedi during the Clone Wars.

Always in motion, the future is, especially in the galaxy far, far away.
