Disney+ Shuffling Release Days for 'Star Wars,' Marvel, And More

Disney+ has become a complete nexus point, pardon the pun, for all things Star Wars and Marvel. Since its launch, people around the globe have eagerly signed up for access to all the Disney classics, but the inclusion of its Marvel and Star Wars sections was just an absolute bonus. This has led to the streaming service, with its moderate price for the content available, becoming one of the biggest in the world and a fine competitor for the likes of Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO Max.

Not content with merely allowing users to stream movies and shows from days gone by, it has also branched into new and exclusive content. Teaming up with Marvel, they have gone on to release the likes of WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki. They also brought back The Clone Wars to finally give fans closure, and the show's threads have continued into The Bad Batch. There is also so much more great content still to come.

When it came to their original series, the release dates for these was usually Friday. However, now it looks like things are going to change moving forward. Starting with Loki (which is currently on episode two), Disney released the premiere on a Wednesday, with subsequent episodes coming out the following Wednesdays. This move made sense, specifically for this show, as releasing it on a Friday would mean clashing with The Bad Batch, but it seems that this is going to be a more permanent thing.

It has been confirmed that all Disney+ original TV shows will debut on a Wednesday moving forward. This seemed likely to be the case before the announcement as the long awaited sequel to Monsters Inc., titled Monsters at Work, also had its premier release date changed from Friday to Wednesday.

As it stands at the moment, shows which currently release new episodes on a Friday (The Bad Batch) will continue to do so and be unaffected by the change, but it remains to be seen as to whether or not this will affect the upcoming Star Wars shows, The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian Season 3, as fans have been accustomed to them coming out on the Friday and into the weekend.

So far, the upcoming shows making the switch from Friday to Wednesday are known to be Monsters at Work, Turner & Hooch, Behind the Attraction, Chip 'n' Dale: Park Life, Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, Growing Up Animal, and Short Circuit. We still await confirmation as to whether or not the future Marvel shows Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel will fall into this as well, but it's very likely.

It may seem like a very random move, but there's actually some intelligence behind it, and kudos to however thought of it first. With them shifting the release dates to Wednesdays, it helps them to avoid going up against new content from other subscription services. Disney+ will have release dates on Wednesdays, HBO Max on Thursdays, and Netflix on Fridays for their original content. This also means that fans will, potentially, have new movie and TV releases for their viewing pleasure, three days of the week.

It's worth noting that the change does not apply to Disney+ Premier Access program, which allows users to purchase certain movies on the day they are released in cinema's, meaning Black Widow may get the attention it deserves as it won't have to worry about competing with the likes of Loki for views.

The fact that something like this is happening just proves that Disney are fully invested in their viewers. They have made a change that does benefit themselves. They are a company at the end of the day, after all, but it also works out well for their viewers, as it now gives us something else to look forward to each week, without leading to some having to choose to what to watch on a certain day over something else as much as before.

What do you think about the move? Do you think it's better? Be sure to let us know.

Until next time!
