Hasbro Confirm Force FX Elite Replica Of Rey's 'Rise Of Skywalker' Lightsaber

Lightsabers were probably the first Star Wars toys. Although these ”toys” were usually either broomsticks or plastic pipes, which were used by the kids in the late '70s to reenact the duel between Darth Vader and Ben Kenobi in their backyards. Today, there are countless lightsaber toys and replicas for sale, including many cheap rip-offs with “creative” names like “Galaxy Sword” or “Force Saber.”

Like Star Wars figures, lightsabers come in two main categories. The first is actual toys, which are targeted toward kids and are more affordable, less screen-accurate and detailed, but more durable, in order to withstand continuous child’s play. The second is more expensive replicas, which often match the respective prop from the big screen in every little detail, but whose blades are not necessarily designed to be clashed against each other, as they are prone to break. These lightsabers are made for being displayed and shown off, either by hanging them on the wall or by presenting them on a dedicated stand.

Hasbro’s The Black Series Force FX Elite Lightsabers definitely fall into the latter category. Established in 2013 and mainly known for its 3.75- and 6-inch action figures both from the movies, as well as from various Star Wars TV shows and even the Expanded Universe, The Black Series also offers helmets and vehicles as well as a selected collection of screen-accurate lightsabers of the likes of Palpatine, Count Dooku, Kylo Ren, or Ahsoka. Or even the Darksaber from the TV shows.

The most recent addition to this collection, which Hasbro revealed only a few days ago, is the Force FX Elite Lightsaber of Rey, which the heroine of the sequel trilogy revealed at the very end of The Rise of Skywalker, after burying the weapons of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa in the sands of Tatooine.

Like all the Force FX lightsabers from Hasbro, it combines advanced LEDs with Ben Burtt’s iconic sound effects, but this replica is special in more than one way. It is the first Hasbro lightsaber with a yellow blade, which is ignited not by pressing a button, but by twisting the grip, which is made from metal and includes a real fabric wrap.

In addition to the twist to ignite feature, the hilt also includes a button, which can be used to activate the so-called Blaster Deflect and the Molten Blade Tip effects. According to the product description, the hilt is also illuminated, although it is not stated whether this means that it will emit the blue and green lights like Rey’s actual lightsaber from the movie before the blade was ignited. But based on the product pictures, this doesn't seem to be the case.

As with all Force FX Elite lightsabers, the package comes with a stand. This can be used to present the replica either with or without the blade, but it lacks the 3 AA 1.5V batteries, which are needed to power the LEDs and the sound effects.

The Star Wars The Black Series Rey Skywalker Force FX Elite Lightsaber can currently be preordered for $264,99 directly from Hasbro, and is currently slated to ship on or around May 1 2022.

Rey constructed her weapon from materials of her quarterstaff, while being stationed on the Resistance base on Ajan Kloss. It is not known where she salvaged the kyber crystal that produces the yellow blade, as this color is relatively rare for lightsabers. The original Luke Skywalker action figure from Kenner included a yellow lightsaber, although he of course never used one in the movies of the original trilogy.

In current Star Wars lore, he briefly owned one that he got from an old High Republic Jedi outpost, before constructing the one with the green blade that he used in Return of the Jedi. The Jedi Temple Guards, who were present at the end of the Clone Wars, also had lightsaber pikes with two yellow blades and this color was more common during the time of the High Republic, although even back then blue and green blades were the most prominent ones.

Despite its rather hefty price, Rey’s lightsaber replica is surely a must-have for collectors, who may already own other Jedi and Sith weapons from the same series.
