Sony's Spider-Man Future

Spider-Man may be one of the most popular comic book superheroes of all time. His silver screen adventures will become very intriguing in the near future courtesy of Disney and Sony with the upcoming release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with the many spin-offs that are about to be released, including Venom: Let Them Be Carnage, Morbius, and the recently announced Kraven the Hunter starring former MCU Quicksilver actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character.

With the future currently set in stone, many fans and critics are curious about the future of Spider-Man and the characters within the franchise of Sony’s Spidey-related universe. Recently, the President of Sony Pictures Sanford Panitch revealed some information about the Spider-Man adjacent universe films.

Take Kraven the Hunter, for example. The speculation around the web is that it could be an attempt at bring the Sinister Six to the screen. Panitch neither confirmed nor denied the idea, saying that they have to work on these types of movies "in the dark."

“It’s tough, because I think these projects are the kind of things we have to work on in the dark. They’re not ready until they’re ready."

Panitch also mentioned that the studio did not rush the Kraven project and that finding Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the lead was "kismet."

"‘Kraven’ is a great example because we just didn’t rush it. We could have made that three plus years ago. It’s just now the script’s awesome, J.C. was the right choice, and we found the movie star because it was just kismet, and watching this other movie and realizing that could be the perfect casting.”

Panitch avoided the topic of a Sinister Six movie but he did admit that "it would be very cool, wouldn’t it?”

However Panitch did describe the film rights to the Spider-Man characters as its own universe aka a “Spidey-Verse,” and even teased what the fans should expect to see in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, hinting that people "don't miss Spider-Man" in the story. Regarding the potential tie-ins with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and other Sony-produced Marvel franchises, Panitch was saying that "there actually is a plan" and that "it’s getting a little more clear for people" where the franchise is going.

Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home is even said to be a part of this, with Panitch saying "even more will be revealed" upon this film's debut:

"We don’t really think of our 900 characters as the Spidey-verse. We have a Marvel universe. The volume of characters we have — you know, wait until you see this next ‘Venom.’ You don’t miss Spider-Man.”

“It’ll be exciting if they do meet, right? There actually is a plan. I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when 'No Way Home' comes out, even more will be revealed.”

With the multiverse about to kick down the door for the MCU and possibly the Sony Spidey-Verse, it’s going to be a fun and innovative ride!
