Need For Speed Unbound has been announced by EA as the next title in the Need For Speed franchise, to be released on December 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.

After a delay from last year, and this year slowly reaching its end, fans were left wondering when the next entry in the Need For Speed franchise would be showing itself. On October 6, the official Twitter account of the franchise became active, updating profile images and giving the tease that the new trailer would be arriving later that day. With the trailer’s arrival, fans were treated to a game that looks to focus on the franchise’s street racing roots.

Utilising an art style that combines realism with street art, the fast-driving cars and character actions are accompanied by various stylised effects. Getting some air sees neon wings appear to the sides, while drifting sees plumes of stylised smoke fill the air. The characters are all modelled with a cartoony visual style, though the cutscenes still resemble previous Need For Speed games in their direction.

Fast cars, customisation, and police chases are all showcased within the trailer, with the official site giving a bit more context as to the story. A robbery at a family auto shop in Lakeshore City splits two friends apart, with a dangerous journey beginning the rise through the ranks of the streets to reclaim the priceless car that was stolen.

A collaboration with A$AP Rocky brings the hip-hop artist into the game, with songs from his catalogue – including the song debuted within the trailer – being within the soundtrack. He’ll also have a role in the content of the game, offering up an event to prove your skills to him.

For those who are signed up to EA Play, the ten-hour trial will be available starting November 29, giving players the option to try before they buy. Additionally, it is confirmed that a series of free content updates will bring new features and experiences to the game post-launch.
