The Next Entry In The 'Assassin's Creed’ Franchise Will Be Called 'Mirage'

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is reportedly going back to its roots.
No, not the roots like the game Origins, but where the fascination all began back in 2007. According to a leak by YouTuber j0nathan, the next game in the franchise will be titled Mirage and is set to debut in the spring of 2023.
Some of the details of the leak were confirmed by Jason Schreier, who stated that a source close to him confirmed the location and time, as well as a return to the “basics” of Assassin’s Creed. That would mean doing away with the RPG elements, like leveling, and a return to a game of stealth. Schreier didn’t comment on any of the other parts of the leak, except to state that it seems the game will be focused solely on Baghdad and there will not be multiple cities.

Other details in the leak give an outlook on the near future of the franchise. The returned focus on the first game supposedly coincides with a remake of the original game as well that will be part of a season pass and a comment about a DLC release set in Constantinople. There was also mention of a return of “Eagle Vision” and Basim will have use of his String Dagger.

The franchise seems to finally be making its way back east. After years of a mostly Mediterranean and European focus, the new game would bring the series back to Asia Minor. While some smaller off-shoot games have gone as far east as China, the main games have always focused on Western historical areas. Fans have been asking for a game set out in the East for some time now. While not that far east, focusing on Baghdad is a welcome change and brings attention to one of the oldest occupied cities in history. Baghdad, from the seventh century to the sacking of the city by the Mongols in the 13th century, was one of the most influential cities in the world, helping cement the period as the Golden Age of Islam. It was a center of learning, science, and political power that was unheard of in the West. Running across the rooftops of Golden Age Baghdad should be great fun.
With a release in the spring, more details are likely to be revealed at the Ubisoft Forward event on September 10.
