The Time That Oscar Isaac Was Slapped 40 Times In A Row By Carrie Fisher

We all know that Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is considered by some to be the most controversial film of the sequel trilogy. Many fans consider it one of the best films of the Skywalker saga, and many others consider it to be the worst Star Wars movie of all time. Even with the amount of controversy this movie has, it also has one of the best behind the scenes documentaries and blooper reels in all of the saga.

The blooper reel from The Last Jedi showed us some very funny moments taking place while the movie was being filmed. Out of the many silly moments with the actors, there was one moment that stood above the rest in terms of behind the scenes content, and that is when General Leia Organa herself, the late Carrie Fisher, slapped Oscar Issacs around 40 times in a row.

When Issacs’s character Poe Dameron returns to the Resistance’s command ship after the bombing of a First Order Dreadnought, General Organa slaps Poe on the face, and tells him that he has been demoted from his commander position.

When filming this scene, Carrie Fisher had to slap Oscar around 40 time, as they kept repeating the take over and over. During an interview with Stephen Colbert, Oscar Isaac revealed that one of the first scenes he shot for The Last Jedi was this particular scene, where Carrie had to slap him.

During the interview, he also revealed how the director of the film, Rian Johnson, kept redoing the take over and over. The actor told Colbert that in the 27 takes that were done for this particular scene, Carrie slapped him 40 times in different spots of his face. One can only imagine how sore Issacs’s face must have been the next day, after receiving 40 slaps in less than a day.

Oscar Isaac is just another actor from the Skywalker saga that has expressed the amazing time they had while working with Carrie. Our beloved Princess wasn’t only charismatic and funny while the cameras were rolling, but also in real life.

Many behind the scenes tidbits from the original trilogy, and the sequel trilogy, show us how funny she was, and how much all the other actors loved working alongside her. When Carrie Fisher left us, she took a part of the magic for Star Wars with her. Now, yes, the stories will continue, but it feels like she took some of the light with her, and she took a part of what Star Wars means for some.

One of the good things that came from The Last Jedi was Poe’s and General Organa’s relationship. Even if Poe is just a member of the Resistance, Leia sees him as kind of a son to her; she grounds him for his behavior, but is always there for him. After losing her son Ben to the dark side, Leia finds Poe in the process, and nurtures him like she couldn’t do with Ben anymore.

Leia knows Poe is a trouble maker, but in some ways, he reminds her of herself in her younger years in the Rebellion. Leia is a huge troublemaker herself and does whatever is necessary to fight the empire, as so does Poe in their fight with the First Order. Even if Leia has to punish him for his actions, she believes in him, and in his decisions, which is why she likes him so much. Leia and Poe’s relationship is one of the winning points within The Last Jedi.

Even though we saw Carrie Fisher one last time in The Rise of Skywalker, the magic was still missing for some, because she was missing from the world. Just like Princess Leia or General Leia herself was THE spark of the Rebellion, Carrie was the spark of Star Wars, a spark that will live with us forever, in our hearts.
