WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3 EPISODE 4

With The Mandalorian bringing in new characters and shining spotlights on old favorites, it stands to reason to expand the time between Grogu being placed under Luke’s care and his return. Viewers learn from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett that Grogu was present at the Jedi Temple during Operation Knightfall. Despite not being a stranger to death and destruction, the experience haunted Grogu. Witnessing notable friends and Jedi being slaughtered and barely managing to escape, he sat and waited for help. His savior was none other than Ahmed Best’s Kelleran Beq.

Deep in the recesses of Star Wars lore and trivia is the name Ahmed Best, the man responsible for the infamous Jar Jar Binks. While fans enjoyed despising the character meant to be the comic relief of the prequel trilogy, life for Best was not the best. It was heavily implied the “media backlash” he faced early in his career was due to his role as the Gungan in the prequel trilogy. He alluded to having experienced suicidal thoughts as a result of what was his first major role. According to Best, “I had death threats through the internet….I had people come to me and say, ‘You destroyed my childhood.’ That’s difficult for a 25-year-old to hear.”

Despite fans’ negativities, director and creator George Lucas enjoyed the character of Jar Jar Binks. He would make further appearances in Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in 2005. As time passed, Best received apologies from fans about their past behavior regarding their distaste for Jar Jar. One fan tweeted, “We take this fan stuff waaaaaaaaay too seriously at times, and it affects/hurts human beings that are just doing their jobs.”

Luckily a majority of fans have disassociated their hatred of Jar Jar from the actor. Prior to his appearance in The Mandalorian, Best played Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, the host of Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge which aired on Star Wars Kids YouTube back in 2020. It is safe to say fans are now celebrating Ahmed’s return and his character’s role in saving the beloved Grogu. Hopefully, the character will be fleshed out further as viewers see more of Grogu’s adventures through the rest of the series.
