Larian Studios is bringing their latest game Baldur's Gate 3, to Xbox Series X and S later this year, removing doubts that fans have been fearing. Studio creative director Swen Vincke confirmed this fact on Thursday. However, this port will be coming with one caveat, Xbox Series S will have the split-screen multiplayer mode removed, though it will remain on the Series X, and both versions will include a cross-save feature between each other and Steam. The previous feature had been holding up the game’s release on current-gen Xbox consoles, and it appears that Microsoft has let the studio bypass feature-parity requirements.

Michael Douse had made it clear just a few weeks ago that technical limitations were holding back the game’s release on Xbox Series X and Series S, not exclusivity deals. As he stated, “The issue is getting split-screen working on the Series S, which is taking more time, but is in progress. This is a huge technical hurdle, but we are unable to release the game on the ecosystem without this feature.” This will likely fuel debates about whether or not the Series S is holding back this generation of gaming. Baldur's Gate 3 was released on Steam on August 3rd and will be released on PlayStation 5 on September 6.
