Despite having existed since 1965, the Dune series of books, created by Frank Herbert, has a hard time getting into the public sphere due to the sheer vastness of scale in adapting it, it having a relatively niche audience. However, with the recent release of the well-received movie Dune: Part One and its creatively named sequel Dune: Part Two directed by Denis Villeneuve have popped the franchise into the public eye. Now, the MMO Dune: Awakening has released its first trailer, which can be seen below.

Greig Fraser, who was in charge of cinematography of both films is involved in the production of the game, which will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The trailer takes place on the planet of Arrakis and refers to the difficulty of surviving on the harsh desert planet. The trailer shows off the iconic worms that the series is known for utilizing, as well as much of the universe’s vast technology, as well as many locations seen throughout the movies. It also mentions that those who do survive ‘awaken’.  Dune: Awakening will be an open-world survival game and is being published by Funcon. No release date has been set as of yet.
