Netflix Acquires 'The Boy And The Heron'

Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron officially has an eventual home in the Netflix streaming catalog. A blog post on Netflix’s website confirmed its future arrival, though a specific date has yet to be named beyond a range of later this year. The Boy and the Heron isn’t the only Studio Ghibli film coming to the streaming platform; continuing the deal struck in 2020, a total of 22 other films will remain available internationally, including Spirited Away (2001), Princess Mononoke (1997), and My Neighbor Totoro (1988).

The Boy and the Heron was released on December 8, 2023. Following a Golden Globes win, it returned to theaters on March 22, 2024, with special content added. There is both the original Japanese version as well as an English dub available to watch; the dub features actors such as Robert Pattinson, Karen Fukuhara, Dave Bautista, Willem Dafoe, and Mark Hamill. The film is still in theaters at the moment.
