Deadline recently broke news announcing that Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae has the male lead role in Star Wars: The Acolyte. Though not much about his role is known, fans are left brainstorming anyway. The film star and successful fashion model is a winner of 22 different awards and is currently a nominee for a Primetime Emmy for an Outstanding Lead Actor award for his role as Seong Gi-hun in Squid Games. The results are due to air on Monday, September 12th. The only other cast members known at this time are Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith.

Most of the only High Republic era lore can be found in a variety of novels and comics, but thankfully there are those kind souls such as the fan channel Star Wars Explained on YouTube that have read those publications and briefly summarized it for us. For those that forgot, BBY stands for the time before the battle of Yavin, also known as the destruction of the first Death Star. The High Republic era begins 1,000 years BBY, marking the end of the Sith Wars that resulted in Darth Bane creating the rule of two; so understandably with the numbers of Sith almost extinct, there was a great bolstering of Jedi forces that both physically and symbolically enforced prosperity and peace up until 86 years BBY where Yoda takes on Dooku and Sifo-Dyas as his apprentices.

With that brief bit of Star Wars history reviewed, the answers about the specific period for The Acolyte varied between 200 to 100 years before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in the year 32 BBY. It’s easy to get lost in the excitement of a villain before Palpatine such as Darth Plagueis or Darth Tenebrous, but an equally possible rabbit hole to fall into, is pondering the heroes that fought them. Whether Lee dons makeup, or prosthetics or stays in a normal human form, it’s exciting to think of who he could assume the role of whether it be a force-user among the many Jedi of the High Republic or a non-force wielding hero as the dark forces are supposed to be secretly gathering power.
