Despite the ongoing popularity of streaming, movies, and TV shows on physical media continue to have a renaissance in recent months, offering studios a way for additional revenue and collectors and completionists an opportunity to fill the holes in their digest.

So it should not come as a surprise, that The Book of Boba Fett follows the lead of The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor and will get a steelbook release later this year.

Announced in a surprising post-credit scene in the last episode of season two of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett consists of seven episodes, telling the further adventures of the notorious bounty hunter (played by Temuera Morrison), after he escaped the Sarlacc pit. The story is split into two timelines, one taking place shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi and the second one five years later when Fett and fellow bounty hunter Fennec Shand (played by Ming-Na Wen) take control of the criminal underworld of Tatooine after the death of Jabba the Hutt and Bib Fortuna.

Not much more is known about this release at the current time, but if the offering of the steelbook edition of The Book of Boba Fett is similar to that of the other Star Wars Disney+ shows, fans can expect the following:

  • A set of 4 discs

  • A standard Blu-ray in 1080k, a ratio of 2,39:1 / 16:9, and a DTS-HD MA 5.1/Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track in several languages

  • 4K Ulta HD in 2160p High Definition, a ratio of 2,39:1 / 16:9, and a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 / Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track in several languages

  • Subtitles for both the 4k and die HD version

  • A yet unannounced set of bonus material. For comparison: the steelbook edition for the first season of Andor includes five specials, the second season of The Mandalorian carries two, and Obi-Wan Kenobi has four bonus features.

  • Probably additional physical add-ons, like cards, posters, or a booklet with concept art.

As Lucasfilm has not announced any plans to continue the series, which premiered on Disney+ in December 2021, it will be interesting to see if the company markets the physical release of the show as "The Complete First Season" or "The Complete Series".
