DC Releases First Trailer For 'Batman And Superman: Battle Of The Super Sons'

Batman and Superman Battle of the Super Sons still

On June 30th, DC gave fans their first trailer for their next animated feature, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons. While the movie’s title headlines the World’s Finest, it will actually be their children at the forefront of the film. The adventure will follow Damien Wayne and Jon Kent as they are tasked with subduing the Justice League after Starro has taken control of the minds of the super team and much of the planet’s populace.

Right from the start, viewers will notice a new animation style not yet seen in DC’s animated films. The animation style is almost similar to that of Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse. Blending a slightly choppy, cell-shaded CGI for characters with 2D backgrounds that makes the characters pop yet gives it a comic book feel. Though, it almost looks too clean as compared to Spider-Verse. Whether or not this style will make a return in future films is up in the air, but it is interesting to see DC take a risk and employ new styles in their animated catalog.

The trailer remains light-hearted in tone throughout its run and feels family oriented in nature. Immediately upon Batman and Superman introducing their sons, Damien throws a batarang at Jon’s head and says “Well, he’s obviously not invulnerable.” From this interaction, the tension between the two is shown to be a catalyst among the two characters that they will have to overcome for the greater good. Shortly after, Starro is shown to be taking over the world. Starro’s duplicates begin to crawl from the mouths of people all over, including the Justice League (and a cameo from who appears to be President Lex Luthor).

How the two were not affected by Starro’s spores or how they will overcome this threat is yet to be known, but viewers can find out for themselves on October 18th when the movie comes out on Blu-ray and digital.
