***WARNING: Spoilers Ahead"***

Season one of Obi-Wan Kenobi is in the books, but there’s already been talk of a second season. This talk has been circling the internet for a couple of weeks now, but as the show comes to an end and the void of no new content settles in, the discussion has picked back up.

Recently, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Kathleen Kennedy addressed the rumblings of the internet and the possibility of a second season.

RELATED:

Kennedy tells ET, “But I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us.” She goes on further to say that if there’s a reason to do it, they’ll have to explore why the character would need another story.

Both Kennedy and Director Deborah Chow expressed that the show was conceived as a one-off, or as Chow told ET, “It really is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end.” Despite that, she too has left the possibility for a second season on the table.

After soundly defeating Vader and returning to Tatooine to head off into the desert, Obi-Wan is visited by the Force ghost of his former master, Qui-Gon Jinn. It was a welcome surprise to fans who had been speculating on whether he would return, despite Liam Neeson’s comments to media that he would only return to the role for a movie. There’s quite a gap in time between the end of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Episode IV where he was first seen back in 1977. The ending does have a definitive sort of feel to it, but the dialog hints that we may not see the last of the Jedi-in-exile, when he tells Bail Organa that if his help is ever needed again, he knows where to find the Jedi. There’s also the possibility of the Jedi’s involvement in Reva’s story if the rumor of a Reva spin-off series in development turns out to be true.

It ultimately comes down to Kennedy’s words though, and it’s too early to see whether fans want to continue the story. It seems for now that much of the discourse on the subject is divided, with some feeling satisfied and feeling no need for a second season, and others craving more.

We do know that this isn’t the last time we’ll see Hayden Christensen, as it’s been revealed he will be back in the upcoming Ahsoka series. To what extent, is unknown. Fans have speculated a Clone Wars flashback, a Force ghost, or Darth Vader, though that last one would have to be as a flashback as well since the show is reported to take place after Episode VI.

All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are streaming now on Disney+.
