I recently attended the Chicago Comic Entertainment Expo (C2E2). I’ve talked about this convention before, but if you didn’t know, this is my local convention, which I have been going to for over 10 years. It will always hold a special place in my heart, and has the best artist alley in my opinion. While there, I got to attend the Daredevil: Born Againpanel that featured Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Wilson Bethel, and Elden Henson. They talked about season 2, their favorite moments, and answered fan questions.

One of the first questions asked was about the Criterion Closet and which movie their characters would choose. Wilson said that Dex would choose Psycho, Foggy would pick Kramer vs. Kramer, Matt would choose 3 Colors Red, and Krysten couldn’t think of anything for Jessica, but said she is currently loving Project Hail Maryand got excited when she found out the author, Andy Weir, was also at the convention.

Fan questions started pretty quickly, and one of the first was whether there was a scene they read and weren’t sure how it would turn out until they did it. Elden never thought ‘Avocados at Law’ would stick the way it did, and that was kinda dumb. Wilson bleats like a goat, and never thought it would work, yet he said: “There I was bleating”.Charlie said he wasn’t a fan of the bank episode and thought it was dumb. He even fought against it, and when he ended up watching it, he asked why they didn’t just go into the bank vault if they had both keys already. He said he was met with a prolonged silence.

When asked how they think their characters would have reacted to the events of Infinity War/ Endgame, they all agreed that their characters would’ve survived and that they all would’ve done a great job. Wilson, however, said that “maybe Dex got blipped, wans got bummed when he came back”. Jessica would’ve been rude to people, and Matt would’ve teamed up with Spider-Man. Later, someone added to this, asking Charlie what he thought Matt would’ve experienced with the Thanos snap? Did he experience everyone’s heart stopping? Charlie just responded by saying, “That’s dark. I don’t have anything better than that”.

The next question was directed at Krysten. As we all know, Jessica Jones is a pretty dark show, so someone asked her how she decompresses. Krysten said she started to really get into knitting. When she was filming the show, she went through a very heavy phase, and would end up staying there, and admits that wasn’t sustainable. She said you eventually build up the strength and muscle to start joking around between takes. Charlie chimes in and says that his wife almost threw away a scarf he knitted for her. They ended up putting it into a “we love this, but don’t wear it often” pile when they were cleaning.

Matt’s faith is a big part of his character, and he loses it after Foggy’s death. Will it come back later? Charlie answers and says that there are a few questions he asks himself, and one of those is what Matt’s current relationship is to his faith. The answer will impact scenes, but it’s fun to play with that spectrum. He also says that there’s some powerful stuff when it comes to faith and moral center in season 2.

When asked if there was a scene they looked back on that felt very rewarding, Charlie answered by saying lots of them. Obviously, some of the action stuff, and the toll it takes, and that it feels rewarding. He especially likes the stuff in season 2, where Matt gets more vulnerable with Karen, and working with Deborah Ann Woll is a dream. He said some of these scenes turned out better than expected.

Are there any other characters from the MCU they would want to team up with? Elden said that Foggy would team up with Star-Lordbecause they seem to have a lot in common. Krysten said Jessica with the Punisher, and jokes that they’re like “goth mom and dad”. Matt would love to do more scenes with Luke Cage.  He didn’t get a lot of screentime with Mike Colter, and would love to see the two characters recreate the comic panel of them eating burgers together.

What would they like to see their characters go through in the next few years? Elden says that it’d be cool if Foggy were an angel that had wings and watched over Matt. Charlie thinks that Foggy should be resurrected by Elektra and then take over the leadership of The Hand. Another fan asked what Elden’s reaction was when he read what was going to happen to Foggy. He was told beforehand, and thought it was a great scene. He said it was awesome shooting it, but that it’s still a bummer when something comes to an end. He said that he was lucky to play him and loved that there was closure.

Fans know that Matt Murdock is blind, but Charlie Cox is not, so what kind of prep did he do for the role? Charlie said that it was an element that was important to get right, and he worked with a blind coach. They did all sorts of stuff for weeks, and were sometimes even blindfolded in the streets of NYC. He also learned various cane techniques and how to do basic tasks.

The panel was a ton of fun, and I was so happy I was able to get into it. While this isn’t the whole thing, it would be impossible to include everything here, so I included some of my favorites.
