The Adoring Fan

Bethesda used a character from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to generate excitement for their latest video game, Starfield. This chaotic character is the incredibly annoying follower, otherwise known as the Adoring Fan. In Oblivion, the Adoring Fan could only appear after conquering the Grand Arena in the Imperial City. Besides the Adoring Fan's constant commentary, he would wield his trusty torch and follow the Hero of Kvatch into the fiery gates of Oblivion. The Adoring Fan has appeared in various YouTube compilations.

This was Oblivion, though, so the Adoring Fan did not serve the Hero of Kvatch like Lydia served the Dragonborn in Skyrim. The Adoring Fan could not be married, fight, or carry the player’s burdens as he was not sworn to like Lydia. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim earned the Adoring Fan his first official reference outside of Oblivion. A Dark Brotherhood assassin received a contract to assassinate the Grand Champion 200 years after the events of Oblivion. To do so, the assassin assumed the guise of an adoring fan to strike at the Grand Champion. Many players have started to ponder the Adoring Fan's true motives. This reference would come from Cicero's journal.

In Starfield, players will need to choose the “Hero Worshipper” trait to meet the Adoring Fan. After acquiring the trait, the Adoring Fan will give gifts to the player and become a member of their crew. The "Hero Worshipper" trait enables players to once again embark on adventures with the Adoring Fan.
