Who Could Have Trained Anakin If Obi-Wan Died Before ‘Attack Of The Clones’?
We all know of the tragic story that befell Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. In fact, we are getting more information about the aftermath of that story with the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series that’s streaming now. As we journey through that aftermath, it’s easy to speculate what might have happened if Obi-Wan met a grim death BEFORE Attack of the Clones. Would Anakin have fallen faster? Would he have not fallen at all? We’re going to dissect who could have handled the ambition that is Anakin Skywalker and who wouldn’t have fit well with him.
To start, we should think about some key concepts. We all know it was Anakin’s fate to fall to the dark side. But, potentially, there could have been a way to see it happening long before the initial fall, depending on the Master that would have taken over. There are some Masters that have dabbled with the dark side themselves that could have seen the disruption in Anakin’s attitude or, at the very least, sensed something that was severely off. Others may have been the key to a faster downfall. These picks have those concepts in mind.

Aayla Secura wasn’t quite a Jedi Master, but neither was Obi-Wan Kenobi when he was given the rank in the Order to train Anakin as his Padawan. Aayla would be a good option simply because she did spend a period on the edge of falling to the dark side. She could be one of those that fall under the category of Masters that could have potentially sensed that something was off in Anakin as a Padawan. She has more balance between strength and force sensitivity. She also could have held a special bond of compassion for Anakin, given her own past that might have allowed Anakin to open up more and not potentially feel judged or brushed off by sharing these things.
Another Master of good nature that could handle the training of Anakin Skywalker is Kit Fisto. However much good nature he holds, Kit Fisto had a deep struggle with his ability to teach that might disrupt Anakin’s training. His mindset that the Force is meant to be used to help others is something Anakin could have learned to appreciate over violence, but who knows if it would have been a permanent change in his attitude or not.
Mace Windu, a Master greatly against training Anakin, and Plo-Koon could have made good choices due to their knowledge of channeling their anger rather than suppressing it. If Anakin had a good outlet to channel his anger into rather than suppressing it at the hands of a less than stable Jedi Order, it might have been enough for him to fight off Palpatine a lot longer.
Ki-Adi-Mundi would have been a good choice if you consider Anakin’s future panic regarding Padme. Ki-Adi-Mundi had a family of his own, is capable of seeing multiple different pathways and outlooks, and has a vast amount of wisdom that could have been used as advice for Anakin in certain moments. As a special mention, Shaak-Ti could have also made a good Master for Anakin based on kindness and her willingness to listen.
The one person that could have successfully handled the training of Anakin Skywalker, if they were alive, would be Qui-Gon Jinn. Without a doubt, he would completely understand how to control his emotions while still keeping meaning to them. Qui-Gon could explain what was wrong with the Order without making Anakin feel nothing but hate for it, and he would be able to bring peace to the soul of a kid that had already formed his own ideas, thoughts, and feelings before being whisked away into training that forms children that typically don’t have a complete understanding of the world before being the Jedi Order.
I am sure there are plenty more potential masters for Anakin Skywalker in the Order that we have yet to see. But, as stated, it was always fated for Obi-Wan to be his Master and for Anakin to become Vader. So all we can do is wish and think about all the possibilities in the end!
