Star Wars fans have been creating their own comedy content since the dawn of the internet. This is a list of some of the most popular, although there are countless great memes, songs, and parodies that have been made over the years. How many of these viral sensations do you remember?

12. Star Wars Gangsta Rap

It’s 2000. Everyone is relieved that the world did not end because of a coding glitch. Animator Thomas Lee decided to practice his Flash skills (yes it’s so old the original was in Flash) on a parody song by Jason Brannon and Chris Crawford. “Star Wars Gangsta Rap” was born. The catchy tune was a viral sensation before YouTube existed, which is why its views are a bit on the low side at 1.5million, but it will bring back memories for a lot of millennials.

11. Star Wars Dramatic Chipmunk

In 2007, everyone was uncontrollably obsessed with Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” and Halo 3 had just come out on the Xbox 360. One meme had the whole world in a chokehold: “The Dramatic Chipmunk.” Like most millennial memes (lime cat, etc.) there’s no real explanation as to why it spread at such a rapid rate of knots. There are an infinite number of different versions, and this “Star Wars Dramatic Chipmunk” has over 2 million views.

10. The Most Feared Bounty Hunter In The Galaxy

These bloopers from Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones have become iconic in Star Wars lore. If you have not seen Temuera Morrison tap dancing in the rain with an umbrella, where have you been? This video has just shy of four million views, but it was also included in the movie’s DVD release.

9. Palpatine Shooting Stars

A parody of the original “Bag Raiders” video, this meme is sitting pretty at 5 million hits. In 2017 Spinning Sheev was more popular than Lorde and was flying around any and all social media platforms and forums. Many other versions were created like “Anakin Shooting Stars.”

8. General Grievous Ra Ra Rasputin

Yes, we know he is on this list twice. It’s not our fault Star Wars fans can’t resist a General Grievous nerf. This video has over 7 million views, and the song is so catchy that you’ll be singing it for days. You have been warned.

7. General Grievous With Too Many Lightsabers

This is a joke that started as a Reddit post in the r/starwars sub and ends up as a viral video with 11 million views. It postulates what would happen if Grievous had killed more Jedi and collected even more lightsabers.

6. IT Starring Jar Jar Binks

The How It Should Have Ended crew had a few hits (The alternate ending to Revenge of the Sith is also worth a look) but the hero swap with Pennywise and Jar Jar Binks fit so perfectly that we couldn’t leave it out. Fans clearly agree as it receives over 10 million hits and 152k likes.

5. Chad Vader: Day Shift Manager

Back in 2006, Star Wars fans did not have a high-budget series like The Mandalorian or Obi-Wan Kenobi to tune into every week. They had Chad Vader: Day Shift Manager. If you’ve ever worked in retail, this is essential viewing as the whole plot revolves around Darth Vader working in a convenience store. The first episode has over 16 million views, and there are four seasons (plus bonus content) of hilarity.

4. Star Wars: Modern Lightsaber Battle

The internet went crazy when The Force Awakens teaser trailer dropped, and fans caught a glimpse of Kylo Ren’s lightsaber for the first time. Imagine a time before the controversy of The Last Jedi and before the death of Carrie Fisher when fans were full of hope. This video is a playful take on the lightsaber reveal, and it has over 32 million views.

3. Jedi Kittens Strike Back

Kittens in an X-wing battling with lightsabers. This was always going to be a hit. Even if you weren’t charmed by the fuzzballs, you can appreciate the editing skills in this short video. Back when Thor was hitting cinemas for the first time, Star Wars fans view this over 32 million times.

2. "SEAGULLS! (Stop It Now)" -- A Bad Lip Reading of The Empire Strikes Back

We can’t believe this song is five years old either. “Seagulls! (Stop it Now)” is an absolute banger. The Team at Bad Lip Reading seems to land smash hits with every Star Wars video they put out (“My Stick,” “Bushes of Love,” “Hostiles on the Hill,” “Not The Future”) but this is the OG. Over 137 million hits and 1.6 million likes at the last count.

1. The Star Wars Kid

The original viral Star Wars video. In 2002, Ghyslain Raza was minding his own business filming himself busting out some Darth Maul moves. Unfortunately for Ghyslain, a group of bullies got hold of the tape and uploaded it to YouTube to humiliate him. The original footage had over 37 million views, but it went much further with additional parodies adding lightsaber and blaster effects. It has been estimated that his footage has been viewed over 900 million times making it one of the most viral videos of all time. Raza is now a minor celebrity and uses his status to highlight bullying and harassment. The version above is Raza’s 2012 clap-back.

This list is filled with videos that have lasted the test of time, so it will be interesting to see which of today’s TikToks we will still be watching in ten years.
