WARNING: Minor Spoilers for Andor Episodes 1-3

Happy Andor day everyone! That’s right. The long-awaited show about everyone’s favorite Rebel captain, Cassian Andor, is finally here. The series, which was initially announced in 2018, stars Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor, and tells the story of how he became such a big part of the Rebellion. The series will consist of two 12-episode seasons and will lead up to the events of Rogue One. The first three episodes were released this past Wednesday, and they were great! They left me wanting more from the series. Here are the best moments from the premiere.

5. Flashbacks

These flashbacks give us insight into who Cassian was as a child. We did not learn much about him in Rogue One, so it is great to see his past. It seems that there were no adults around when Cassian was a child, as he was with a bunch of other kids. They went after a crashed ship, and the mission did not go as planned for them. Cassian did not go back with the rest of them and decided to explore the ship. He was rescued by Maarva, and would grow into the Cassian Andor we are familiar with.

In Episode 3, as the enforcers are looking for Cassian, they find Maarva. A guard stays behind with Maarva to make sure she does not do anything. Maarva is sitting and keeps talking to the guard that is stationed with her. The guard is getting annoyed with her, but she can tell the banging on the metal is getting to him, which she calls “the reckoning.” Then, the banging stops.

3. The Reckoning Scene

“The Reckoning” starts with people banging on metal to throw off the Preox-Morlana enforcers entering the town. Luthen and Cassian plant the rest of Luthen’s explosive charges on another speeder which they send out to distract the Pre-Mor enforcers. They then make their escape on a different speeder under the cover of explosions and chaos.

2. Seeing Cassian Andor For The First Time

The opening scene of Episode 1 was spectacular. Cassian is walking in the rain, into what seems like a bar, and inquires about someone he is looking for. The scene is beautifully lit, and we aren’t even sure it is Cassian, until he gets to the door of the bar, and removes his hood. This is the first time we have seen him since Rogue One.

1. The Parallels At The End Of Episode 3

Cassian and Luthen are able to make it to Luthen’s ship, after evading the Pre-Mor enforcers for now. The scene flashes back and forth between kid Cassian and adult Cassian. Kid Cassian looked out of Maarva’s ship into the brightly lit sky, then we cut to adult Cassian looking out of Luthen’s ship. Kid Cassian entered a new life out in the galaxy, similar to adult Cassian who is entering a new life with Luthen and the fledging Rebellion. The parallels at the end of this episode are amazing.

This Star Wars series is definitely darker than the others. The first three episodes of Andor are worth waiting for and have a lot of great moments. Cassian Andor is a character we did not get to learn a lot about in Rogue One, so I’m glad we’re getting to see his story in Andor. I cannot wait to see more of this show, and hopefully more great moments as well.

Andor is now streaming on Disney+.
