First Look Images From ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’

Avatar: The Way Of Water Revealed At CinemaCon

It has taken almost thirteen years, with lots of setbacks and delays along the way, but at CinemaCon 2022 last week, Disney not only revealed the release date for the sequel to James Cameron’s sci-fi epic Avatar but a title too. Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters on December 16. Thanks to a leak by the T2BNLive Twitter account, which is normally a source for Tollywood and Bollywood news, we have the first set of images from the movie.

These stills are believed to be taken from the forthcoming trailer, which is due to show ahead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when that comes out on May 6.

What Do The Images Reveal?

While the images do not give too much away about the plot, we do get some gorgeous glimpses of Pandora, the beautiful and paradisical planet of the franchise’s protagonists, the Na’vi. At least two of the images feature Jake and Neytiri Sully, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, respectively.

There is also one stunning underwater image of a giant whale-like creature swimming alongside a Na'vi and another with Jake, Neytiri, and the Na'vi in the water, looking ready for battle.

What Do We Know About The Sequel?

Following the events of the first film, Jake and Neytiri Sully have kids now, according to the official synopsis that has been released. It tells their story – about the troubles they face and lengths they go to stay safe and, for fans of the first film, the battles they need to fight to stay alive. Tragedies are also teased.

Will the battles be similar to those in Avatar, involving conflicts with fellow Na’vi or solely just humans? Only time will tell.

Future Sequels Also At Varying Stages Of Completion

CinemaCon also revealed that James Cameron is on track to release the third, fourth, and fifth films in the franchise in 2024, 2026, and 2028, respectively. Curiously, each of these sequels has been noted as being standalone movies rather than part of a larger narrative.

Although no names for the future sequels have been confirmed, Cameron stated in 2018 that the leaked titles were actually the working titles for the films. One of those was Avatar: The Way Of Water. So potentially the next sequels could be called Avatar: The Seed BearerAvatar: The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar: The Quest For Aywa

Who Is Starring In Avatar: The Way Of Water?

Avatar: The Way Of Water, much like the first film, will star Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana in the leads, with returning cast members Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, and Giovani Ribisi. Joining them for the epic will be Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh, Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, and several young up-and-coming actors.

Will James Cameron follow up the monumental success of Avatar with Avatar: The Way Of Water or will it be a commercial flop? We will need to wait for its proposed release date of December 16, 2022 to see.
