Alternate Beginning Among Cut Scenes From 'Supergirl' Test Screening

Many films have different cuts than what ends up getting released, and Supergirl is no exception. One film critic, The Film Frontier's Dan Marcus, has given some insight into an alternate beginning, minor spoiler warning ahead. He stated, “The cut wasn’t very different than the one I saw earlier this week. Besides more scenes on Krypton and an alternate opening, it was the same film.” Marcus stated that the original movies “started with the destruction of Krypton,” rather than Supergirl on her ship. There were a few more scenes on krypton that were cut as well.
“Krem had more of his backstory cut from the finished film, though,” explains Dan Marcus. “He talked about how he was abused as a child, but how that upbringing made him stronger. He revealed he was going to do the same with Ruthye, threatening to make her his wife.” This led to a “harrowing” scene in which Krem murdered Ruthye’s entire family. None of this made it into the finished film, leaving Krem’s backstory vague. The cut also lacked two scenes with Superman, so we can assume that at least some of the scenes were removed to make room. Readers will have to decide for themselves if the finished movies could have benefited from these deleted scenes.
