DC Cancels FanDome 2022, Shifting Their Focus Towards In-Person Events

Here’s a moment where silence says almost everything. DC confirmed Thursday that they would not be holding a FanDome event for 2022. This was to be expected, as no prior indications had been made that one would happen. However, if the company is to be believed, this wasn’t just some wasteful expense upstairs saw that needed to be cut, but instead, they cited the return of in-person events, such as San Diego Comic-Con last month and New York Comic-Con next month.

As a refresher, DC FanDome was a virtual convention, an “immersive virtual fan experience” featuring all sorts of exclusive interviews and sneak peeks. It was created in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the mass closure of public events. While the 2020 event was a multifaceted event with several different avenues to take, 2021’s edition had a more streamlined four-hour presentation, with only a 35-minute Kids presentation orbiting it. It remains to be seen whether FanDome will ever come back or if it will truly remain an artifact of the pandemic.

There’s also huge negative energy surrounding the company lately. Maybe after NYCC they’ll be able to lay low for a bit, and get themselves together.

If this truly is the end for DC FanDome, then so be it. It served its purpose and can be fondly remembered for being one of the better-assembled events of the pandemic. Farewell.
