DC's 'The Flash' Will Finish With A Short Season 9

DC
Barry Allen The Flash

“Run Barry, Run.” It has been eight years since Tom Cavanagh’s Harrison Wells/Eobard Thawne uttered those words in the ear of Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, spurring him forward to become the heroic and legendary speedster the people of Central City would come to know as The Flash. It has since become a mainstay saying of the series, recited by numerous characters throughout the show’s successful run on the CW. Sadly, it has been confirmed that the show is officially coming to an end with DC’s The Flash planning to conclude after a shorter than usual thirteen-episode season.

Although fans will undoubtedly miss new episodes starring their favorite streak, it is best to go out on the top, and that is exactly what the CW is aiming to do. From the time Barry Allen was first introduced to the Arrowverse as a powerless nerd hoping to woo his childhood crush, his character has had a following among CW viewers. Once the spinoff was officially up and running, it did not take long for it to find its footing and become one of the network’s most popular shows. Carrying the bulk of the viewership load alongside fellow DC series and parent show Arrow, The Flash was more than ready to take over as the CW’s #1 show once Arrow concluded. It has been the front runner of its DC universe since. In fact, it has even outlasted shows that have come after it, including Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.

RELATED:

So far over the course of eight seasons, the audience has seen Barry and team Flash battle evil speedsters, take on a full rogue’s gallery of classic Flash villains, come to grips with mortality, and face the consequences of their decisions in a superpowered world. They have watched not just Barry, but all of the characters grow from young adults trying to make the world a better place to true protectors of not just their earth but all Earths across the multiverse. Now the team will face their final threat, but fans will have to wait longer than normal to find out what or who that threat is. In addition to being slated for only thirteen episodes (its shortest season to date), The Flash's final season will also, for the first time, not have a fall premiere. This means fans will have to wait until an early 2023 mid-season premiere to see if they will get one last “Run Barry, Run.”
