Marvel Studios will release The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special 30 days before Christmas. This 40-minute original special will stream on Disney+ presumably when the streaming service drops new content (midnight Pacific/3:00 AM Eastern). Hollywood Music & Marvel Records will be its herald as they are set to release the special's official soundtrack album on the 23rd of November 2022.

As is James Gunn's proclivity to designate The Guardian of the Galaxy films with "Vol." it is, by now, obvious that music is an integral part of the GOTG franchise. Gunn has since revealed he chooses tracks that will express the flow of the story. As the model has worked for the prior volumes, Gunn carries this over to the holiday special.

RELATED:

The story follows the Guardians' adventures on Earth during the Christmas season as they try to help Peter Quill cope with Gamora's loss. A part of their plan is to "invite the legendary actor, Kevin Bacon." John Murphy (The Suicide Squad, Kick-Ass) provides the show's musical score. Alongside his music are a couple of familiar holiday tunes (and almost-obvious James Gunn choices) such as The Waitresses' "Christmas Wrapping" and The Pogues' "Fairytale of New York." With Kevin Bacon being namedropped since Vol.1, it is fitting that the actor contributed to the soundtrack as well. The product of his collaboration with Old 97's is the original song "Here It Is Christmastime." Old 97's also contributes "I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmas Is Here).”

Granted, a few songs and the music may elicit a festive mood, but the soundtrack itself and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will in some way remind fans of the MCU and the GOTG that the holidays are here.

Here is the complete soundtrack listing from James Gunn's tweet:
