Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was released this weekend. As Marvel fans, we are used to having to sit and wait through the credits to be treated to some extra scenes. However, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever only has one mid-credits scene, so there is no need to wait the extra few minutes for the longer credits to be done.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

At the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri decides to take up Nakia on her offer to visit her in Haiti. She has overcome her grief and is ready to move on. She decides to burn her funeral garments, the same way her mother did earlier in the film. While the fabric burns, she closes her eyes in memory of her brother. She remembers all the good times with him and knows that death is not the end.

This leads us to the mid-credits scene, which is played after Rihanna’s beautiful song. Nakia joins Shuri at the fire, but she has a surprise with her. A little boy by the name of  Toussaint is revealed to be her and T’Challa’s son. Nakia reveals that she and T’Challa made the decision to have him be raised in Haiti, away from the pressure of Wakanda and the throne. She also reveals to Shuri that T’Challa had prepared them for his death, and they had their own funeral for him at their home in Haiti. Toussaint also has a surprise. He reveals that Toussaint is his Haitian name, but his real name is “Prince T’Challa, Son of King T’Challa.” This is a call back to Black Panther when T’Challa announces who he is, after being challenged by M’Baku. The scene is important to Shuri’s journey, as it brings her mourning to a close, but also introduces a hopeful future.

The beautiful mid-credits scene was the film’s final tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s character. The scene was a wonderful way to keep the character of T’Challa in the Black Panther universe. Prince T’Challa being introduced could mean many things. He is the rightful heir to the throne and could become king one day, and maybe even the Black Panther.

After all, the final message at the end before the screen goes to black promises, “Black Panther will return.”
