'Housing Complex C', The Next Original Anime From Adult Swim, Sets Its Premiere Date

Adult Swim may be running low on live-action shows following cancellations of Three Busy Debras and Joe Pera Talks with You, but they’ve got a hefty slate of anime lined up. And for the last decade, when Adult Swim has anime, it heads to Toonami. And so, the network announced that the horror anime Housing Complex C will premiere Saturday, October 1 (early Sunday, October 2) at Midnight ET/PT.

Housing Complex C was initially announced in March, on Toonami’s 25th anniversary, along with two new seasons of FLCL. It centers on Kimi, who lives in a small housing complex in Kurosaki’s quiet seaside town. Trouble seems to follow her, and what’s been found this time is horrific, and many start to wonder if it’s an ancient evil creeping up on the complex’s residents.

The series is directed by Yuji Nara with script and original concept by amphibian. Akatsuki is the studio doing the animation. It is executive produced by Jason DeMarco, co-creator of the Toonami block who is Senior Vice President and Head of Anime and Action Series at Adult Swim. The series is also produced by Maki Terashima-Furuta of Production IG USA.

Its October premiere date positions it as an unintentional but convenient replacement for the long-awaited adaptation of the horror manga Uzumaki, announced in 2019. In its series of delays, it landed at an October 2022 premiere date in June 2021 before being indefinitely delayed this past June. Housing Complex C joins this decade’s fellow original anime productions Fena: Pirate PrincessBlade Runner: Black Lotus, and Shenmue The Animation. In addition to the previously mentioned are Rick and Morty: The Anime and Ninja Kamui, which were announced in May.
