'Joker 2' May Have A Budget Three Times Higher Than The Original Movie's

DC
Joaquin Phoenix Joker

Joker: Folie a Deux, Todd Phillips’ anticipated sequel to 2019’s Joker film is rumored to receive a budget of $150 million. The film will see the return of Joaquin Phoenix as Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime with the new addition of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. Both Phillips and Phoenix are slated to receive $20 million each for their contributions to the project as Gaga is receiving a payday close to $10 million. For context, DC’s most recent reboot, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, cost $185 million to produce; whereas, the Joker cost $55 million and brought in $1 billion from the box office.

This comes at a time when Warner Brothers’ most recent headlines pertain to scrapping Batgirl for tax purposes. Some find this budgetary refocusing mildly off-putting. Variety reports that the days of releasing feature films straight-to-streaming has run its course. The Blue Beetle film was originally slated to launch online, but now is being released in theaters. Those wanting to at least see the Batgirl film argue releasing a film in any format for it to create revenue is better than simply putting the film in a vault never to see the light of day.

Joker: Folie a Deux is set to release on October 4th, 2024 from Warner Bros.
