Phase Four has been a season of speculation for the future of the MCU with properties like Moon Knight and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, today’s release from Marvel Studios, Werewolf by Night, seems to solidify a more spooky direction than what fans have seen in the past. Werewolf by Night is Marvel Studios’ first-ever special presentation following monster hunter Jack Russell.

Directed by longtime MCU composer Michael Giacchino, who handled the score for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the new property is marketed as a standalone product in the MCU. However, executive producer Brian Gay commented to ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero on how “unpredictable” things can become. He said, “He is unpredictable. I don’t know that he is anyone’s ally because I think Jack just views it as a part of him. Many of our heroes view their powers as a calling or as something to step up, or they get this. And Jack is just that’s who he is. That’s who he is as a person. And he probably knows he’s a little special, but he probably doesn’t think he’s that special….”

As to discovering if fans can expect the Werewolf in future properties, Gay said, “Who’s to say, I’m not sure if anyone would readily approach him and be like, come join my team. He’s a little ferocious.” Many expect an MCU version of the Midnight Sons squad to come to fruition in the coming years, especially since the announcement of Hugh Jackman returning at Wolverine for the third installment of Deadpool.
