Lord of the Rings fans are no strangers to famous singers. Annie Lennox sang the end credits song, "Into The West", for The Return of the King. Her song during the finale closed out an epic franchise.  And now Fiona Apple has joined The Rings of Power,  with a song right out of J.R.R. Tolkien's writing, and she gets the honor of closing out the first season of one of the biggest shows on streaming.

The song is titled "Where The Shadows Lie". It's inspired one by one of J.R.R. Tolkien's most famous poems, "the one ring to rule them all". Specifically, the verse that is inscribed on the one ring.

Composer Bear McCreary explained on Twitter how he's been a longtime fan of the singer, and wanted to create a melody that captured the show's spirit. He wanted it to work "for the titular Rings of Power, for the magic of Mithril, for the sinister machinations of Sauron, and for his land of Mordor". He also revealed the viewers have already heard pieces of the song throughout the season. The song is now available to stream exclusively through Amazon Music.

Fiona Apple has experience contributing songs to film and TV. She wrote the theme for The Affair, a drama on Showtime, and most recently Central Park on Apple TV+.

The Rings of Power is nearing the end of its first season. A trailer was released ahead of the finale, but fans will have to wait a bit to resolve any cliffhangers, or theories because season 2 just began filming. Fans, however, do have a great new song to add to their playlists to hold them over until then.

The season finale of The Rings of Power premieres October 14 on Amazon Prime.
