HBO Max Announces A 'Harley Quinn' Valentine's Day Special, Capping A Great Week For Animated Lesbians At Warner Bros Animation

DC

In a year of chaos and pain, Harley Quinn still stands strong. Not only does it have a fourth season and a spinoff on the way, but now it has a holiday special too.HBO Max has announced that a Valentine’s Day special, titled A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special will premiere, well when else, February 2023. After all, Valentine’s Day isn’t like Christmas or Halloween where it’s allowed to encroach the preceding month.

It will see Harley and Ivy (voiced by Kaley Cuoco and Lake Bell) celebrating their first Valentine’s Day as a couple and will highlight how the show’s other characters spend the day too, including Clark Kent and Lois Lane (played by James Wolk and Natalie Morales). Other cast members appearing include Alan Tudyk, Matt Oberg (Kite Man), Vanessa Marshall (Wonder Woman), Rachel Dratch (Nora Freeze), Chris Diamantopoulos (Aquaman), James Adomian (Bane), Jim Rash (The Riddler), and Michael Ironside (Darkseid).

The news caps off a week that saw the release of Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!, the latest direct-to-video Scooby-Doo! film on Tuesday, October 3. In it, Velma was confirmed to be a lesbian with her crush on the film’s villain. It had long been speculated in the fandom, and previous attempts to canonize such had been made. It was well-celebrated across the internet as a victory for representation and the LGBTQ+ community.

It is unknown what the special is considered production-wise, whether part of season 4 or tacked onto the whole season If Looney Tunes Cartoons, Smiling Friends, and Doctor Who are any indications, it shouldn’t be a separate listing like Bojack Horseman’s Christmas special but instead could be the back end of the show’s latest season, in Harley Quinn’s case season three. Or it could just be hanging out as the sole episode of season 4 for a while.
