Alan Tudyk is joining Nickelodeon's newest addition to the animated Transformers canon, Transformers: EarthSpark, as none other than Optimus Prime. Tudyk, whose recent TV work includes Resident Alien and Harley Quinn, has previously appeared in the franchise in the live-action film Transformers: Dark of the Moon. He'll be joining fellow EarthSpark cast members Rory McCann (as Megatron) and Danny Pudi (as Bumblebee).

Transformers: EarthSpark is set after the end of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons and focuses on two human brothers, Robby Malto (Sydney Mikayla) and Mo Malto (Zion Broadnax), who discover a mysterious technology that links them with newly created Transformers Twitch (Kathreen Kavari) and Thrash (Zeno Robinson). This premise brings the Malto family into contact with the Tudyk's Optimus Prime as the Autobots seek to mentor these new robots and fight off threats from the Decepticons and other humans.

How involved Optimus Prime will be in the story isn’t clear yet, but given his position as leader of the Autobots (and, of course, his obvious marketability as one of the most recognizable characters from Transformers) it’s likely he’ll play a prominent role in how the story shapes up.

The series is coming to Paramount+ and Nickelodeon's international channels in November, and the first season will consist of 26 episodes. EathSpark is among the franchise's most recent offerings, including Netflix's Transformers: BotBots, which premiered in March, and the next live-action film, due to be released in June 2023. EarthSpark's CGI animation is being done by Canada's ICON Creative Studio.
