'Moana' Getting Live-Action Treatment, Revealed By Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Bob Iger

As Disney continues to pump out live-action remakes, with The Lion King, Dumbo, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, and more already out, we have an announcement of a movie from only seven years ago being remade.
Moana, the 2016 hit starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Auli‘i Cravalho, has a remake coming out at a yet unspecified date. It will mark the first time that a movie made after 2000 will be remade. Company CEO Bob Iger, as well as Johnson, let shareholders know on Monday via a YouTube video. The announcement can be seen below:

The original animated movie was based on Polynesian myths, depicting a young woman disobeying her father. The movie was certainly a success at the box office, with critics, and with fans, having hit $665 million internationally, and is an Oscar-nominated film, though it lost to Zootopia. It currently has a 95% certification rating from critics and an 89% approval rating from viewers, with the critic consensus being “With a title character as three-dimensional as its lush animation and a story that adds fresh depth to Disney's time-tested formula, Moana is truly a family-friendly adventure for the ages.”
The live-action remake currently does not have a release date.
