New Hosts Announced For 'Saturday Night Live' Season 52

Live from New York it’s the first batch of hosts for Saturday Night Live season 52! It’s officially been confirmed that NBA player Jalen Brunson, actress Dakota Johnson, comedian Shane Gillis, and recent breakout star Inde Navarrette will be the first four hosts of the new season! Katseye, Turnstile, Rosalía, and Gracie Abrams will serve as the musical guests for these same episodes.

Jalen Brunson is a professional basketball player for the NBA, continuing a longstanding SNL tradition of athletes hosting episodes after having a major moment. Dubbed “Captain Clutch” and “The King of New York” by fans, Brunson led the New York Knicks to their first NBA finals since 1999 and led them to win their first championship since 1973. Dakota Johnson is best known for her roles as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, Domino in Cha Cha Real Smooth, and Lucy Mason in Materialists. This will be her second time hosting. Shane Gillis is a successful stand-up comedian who was originally set to be a cast member in season 45, but was fired days later after clips of him using racist, sexist, and homophobic language on a podcast were unearthed. Despite this, this will be Shane Gillis’ third time hosting. Inde Navarrette is best known for her breakout role as Nikki Freeman in Curry Barker’s horror film Obsession. A major breakout role, Navarrette’s performance received widespread critical acclaim and is currently being hailed as a potential Oscar contender. She is currently set to play Rogue in Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men reboot set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and headline The Waffle House Index. Notably, Inde Navarrete will host the much coveted Halloween episode, SNL’s first since 2020.

Saturday Night Live’s upcoming 52nd season has seen very little cast changes. Chloe Fineman (who joined in season 45) announced her departure earlier this year. Martin Herlihy, a writer and member of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy, also exited the show after becoming a more frequent on-screen presence in filmed sketches he wrote and directed. Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Ben Marshall, Kam Patterson and Veronika Slowikowska, who joined season 51 as featured players, will all remain featured players. Ashley Padilla and Jane Wickline, who joined during SNL’s milestone 50th season, are now repertory players. The series is coming off of a mostly successful 51st season which featured many prominent hosts including Bad Bunny, Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Glen Powell, and Finn Wolfhard. Hosts for season 52’s November shows will be announced at a later date.
