The 17th annual New York Comic-Con’s Empire Stage saw the arrival of the first teaser for the third and reportedly final season of Picard during a panel for the Emmy Award-winning series. The cast and crew graced the stage, including The Next Generation alumni Gates McFadden, Levar Burton, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, and Michael Dorn. Also in attendance were showrunner Terry Matalas, executive producers Rod Roddenberry (son of late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry), and Alex Kurtzman.

The new footage revealed Tony Award winner Amanda Plummer in the recurring role of Vadic, captain of the Shrike, whose apparent vendetta against Picard will jeopardise him and everyone around him. Also joining Picard in season 3 are Mica Burton and Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut as Ensigns Alandra La Forge and Sidney La Forge, daughters of the Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge. The senior La Forge is played by Levar Burton, the real-life father of Mica Burton, and he joins Gates McFadden and Michael Dorn as they reprise their TNG roles for the first time since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.

The trailer presents Picard attempting to enjoy a quiet meal from which he is pulled away by a new crisis. Mystery and danger seem inevitable, as Vadic makes an explosive entrance in the new season attended by unmistakable menace. Tension builds as the footage plays out, culminating in a double reveal: the return of two iconic antagonists: Brent Spiner’s Lore, Data’s younger brother; and Arthur Conan Doyle creation, Professor Moriarty, played by Daniel Davis, the holodeck simulation to whom Data inadvertently gave sentience over thirty years prior.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Terry Matalas has showrunner, and executive producer, duties for season 3. Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Doug Aarniokoski, and Dylan Massin also serve as executive producers.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Picard are available now. Paramount+ will begin streaming Season 3 exclusively on February 16, 2023.
